Boy, oh boy. BOL!
I've just had the greatest; most fun weekend ever. Mom and Dad are learning that when I bark that I am not just doing it for the fun of it but that there is really an intruder around.
Sooo, on Saturday evening I began barking and barking. Mom finally listened and came outside to see what was going on. I took her all around the barn and tried to convince her to let me in the barn. She finally opened the door and I went charging inside. Well, she couldn't see anything (sometimes humans just aren't very observant), but I knew that there was an intruder in that barn. Well, Mommy finally made me come with her by strapping on my leash and we had to leave. Mommy made me go to my kennel, but I just kept my eye on that barn door.
Finally, when Mommy went to put the chickens in for the night, she saw the intruder! It was after dark and she heard a rustling noise; so she shined the light over to where the noise was coming from and sure enough----there was a raccoon! This was the second one in our yard in the last two days. She went inside and got Dad and he came out with the shotgun. Well, I will spare you any of the details, but Daddy said that the raccoon had to be eliminated or else it would get in the chicken house and eat all of the chickens.
So Daddy eliminated that pesky ole critter and then I got to get out of my pen to investigate. Finally! Well, I found that critter and carried it all over the yard. I was sooo proud to show everyone "my catch". BOL!
My furless brother says that now I am an official huntin' dog just like Copper and ole Chief in The Fox and The Hound movie. Mommy and Daddy petted me all over and scratched my ears and told me what a good doggy I was too. Is it wrong of me to feel proud of myself? It just makes me so happy when Mommy and Daddy tell me that I am such a good girl. (Uusually I am getting scolded for terrorizing the cats)! Well, I really do try to be good but it sure is hard sometimes.
Anyhow, then today was even better than yesterday. I got up early and looked all around for "my trophy" from the night before, but he was gone. Mommy said something about Daddy taking it away. Gee, sometimes I don't understand humans. Why would he take my trophy away? Anyhow, Mommy told me that we would take a nice walk since it was a beautiful day outside. So we headed for the woods behind our house. It is about 1/2 mile to the woods but the field was worked up; so Mommy had to walk across the fence row and into the field next to us which hasn't been plowed or anything. She said that it was much easier to walk there. Well, I wasn't having any problems walking anywhere but Mommy could keep up with me much better after we went into the other field. Then we cut up through the fence row which has a nice path in it and it is full of pretty song birds that fly and twitter as we walk by. All of a sudden, Mommy stopped walking and pulled something out of the bottom of her shoe. It was a huge big clump of really nasty looking, long and really sharp thorns that had gone right through her tennis shoe. It poked the bottom of her foot but didn't go in far enough to do any damage. Boy, am I ever glad that I didn't step on those nasty ole things. Ouch!
So, we continued on. When we finally got back to the woods, I thought that I was in heaven. Ahhh! Heaven on earth anyhow. There was the creek that I could play in, squirrels running everywhere and thousands of smells to tempt my nose. I had a real hayday running here and there and taking in all the sights and sounds. Mommy stopped several times and rested on a log while she watched me run and play. It was a great day.
Of course by the time we got back home, I was all wet and muddy and Mommy told me that I could not go in the house until I dried off. So I stayed outside in the sunshine and helped Daddy roll the lawn. Then we walked all around the yard to check for moles. They are digging everywhere and Daddy gets so mad at them. I tried to help him find them by digging but he told me that I was making a bigger mess than the moles. So I decided to go inside with Mommy and see if I could help her with anything.
Once I got inside it was sooo warm and I started getting soooo sleepy. Mommy said that she was sleepy too so I hopped up on the love seat and closed my eyes. Mommy sat in the recliner and closed her eyes too and we both had a nice long nap together. Boy, all of this running, playing and hunting sure can make a doggie really tired. I love warm weather and being outside.
Now that I am all rested up, I think that I will go back outside and see how Dad is coming with his mole hunting. I am sure that he needs my assistance and I am only too happy to give it. Gotta run now. I will write more later on my great outdoor activities. Gee, it's great being a doggie!
