Tuesday Mummy took me off to the Vets to chat about what to do next with my skin/ear allergies. For a good few months i have been itching my ears until they are raw. Mummy & the Vets have tried alot of things but nothing seems to be helping but now i have been put on an expensive diet of home cooked Venision (im excited to try it) for 4 weeks.
They took samples of my skin/fur and looked at it under a micro-scope and confirmed it wasn't any sort of mites, and also tried to looked at my ears- They couldn't even see past into the tubes because i have such a thick growth of hair actually inside my ears BOL! I was a very good boy and was itching away in there arms as they were trying to see inside my ear, they said it must be really irritating and stressful to have :( It sure is!

The Vets said if the diet doesn't help then i will have to go on stronger steroid medication :( Mum is really hoping that this new diet is the miracle i need so badly!

I too have lots of ichies and usually a Benerdryl tablet helps me to stop scratching for a bit. I hope your new diet works for you.

Have they tried Benadryl on you?

Also... ask about CHLORPHENIRAMINE ... its what the Boys take.

Has none of the sleepy side of benedryl.. and is a little stronger than Zyrtec which is also a non drowsey

Also.. an aloe rinse.. and aloe gel

There is also Atopica...

Steroids are truely only very short term meds.. as they do more harm than good very quickly.

Teddy, I hope they can figure out what is wrong with your cute little ears. Hopefully the venison diet will also help. Have you tried lamb? I have heard that that is also good for pups with allergies.

I had to get all that hair pulled out of my ears this past Sunday, I was not happy, but it sure feels better. Hope you feel better too.

Thanks so much fur the wonderfur advice you guys! Mummy is definitely going to look into some of the other medication you mentioned, i have already tried something similar to Benadryl and it didn't hae any effect :(
With these drops im using at the moment im not itching at all so hopefully they can find a safer way then steroids, now they know it works.
