Grace's Story

Mom helped with another transport today - SEVEN DOGS. This is becoming a pretty regular thing for her and she loves it! Her pawrents are even starting to get into it!
She doesn't get to know the dogs, or their stories very well, but on this particular transport they had a bit of a APBT named Grace. Mom got an email about her while ago, so she knew what the poor girl had gone through...
Grace was used as a breeder down south for quite some time - I'm not sure how long - and, after awhile, her 'owners' decided that they either wouldn't or couldn't breed her anymore. So, instead of bringing her into their home, or giving her to someone that would, they heartlessly tied her up with a rope around her neck with no food, and no water, and left her to die of starvation or dehydration - whichever came first.
Grace has come a long way since she was found, nearly dead. She is still underweight, has a horrible rash around her neck and her skin and coat is in horrible shape. However, she LOVES people - though I don't quite understand HOW - and other dogs. As someone else on mom's tranport said, she has a lot of hope in her eyes, you can see it. Somehow, this dog, that was treated so badly, still has FAITH in the human race - which is more than I can say for mom right now (present company excluded of coarse). She still wags her tail, and looks up at you with love - no matter how guarded - with love in her eyes. She is going to make someone a GREAT pet someday!
Mom came home and gave us LOTS and LOTS of loving when she got home from this one - more than usual! While she was hugging us, her cheeks got all wet and she said something to the effect of how lucky we were for never having to know the horrors that some other dogs are forced to know.
She asked me to tell you to tell your pawrents to give you some extra special lovin' every day in honor of Grace, and others like her. We sure are some special pups for having some really pawsome pawrents, aren't we?

Big labbie hugs and sloppy kisses -
Abby and Shadow

Hey, guys -

dumb people are everywhere. Mommy was involved in rescuing an APBT here in Raleigh - she was found wandering the streets in a busy busy neighborhood - her name is HOPE - similar story, she had been used as a breeder and when they didn't need her anymore, she was used as a bait dog - she was missing part of her face and had severely infected wounds when Miss Stephanie found her. She's been in rehab with the SPCA shelter for about 5 months now, and still has some doggie issues, but has made remarkable progress and, hopefully, will be able to be adopted out in the fall. Bless your momma for getting involved.

Your mom has a wonderful, big heart to help all those dogs! Paws crossed that Grace finds a great furever home!

I'm no more special, or have any bigger of a heart than any of you:)
Tucker - it just amazes me to what lows the human race will sink to. The idea of bait dogs has GOT to be hardest for me to grasp. Abuse of any kind is difficult for me to understand, but THOSE poor dogs definately have the worst of it:(
It really hurts my heart:((

my mom helps with transport too.... she comes home with all kinds of new smells on her! And she says that some of the transport pups really pulls at her heartstrings! Good thing they are headed to new homes, otherwise our house would be overflowing.
