On a less tearful note, the secretary's sister sent her photos from my cousin, Ted's first Gotcha Day on June 14th! We sent Ted some goodies from Three Dog Bakery to celebrate and he got cards and other treats as well. He got a grooming on the day before his Gotcha Day so he is looking particularly spiffy in this photo. As you can see on my page, Ted is containing his excitement quite well in this photo but we know for a fact that he is a happy, happy pup who so deserved this wonderful home. A great rescue story is our Ted!
Thanks to all who have sent messages and rosettes, offering such kind thoughts. Such lovely folks and pups who understand that even nine years later, a gal can shed a tear or two thinking about her loss.
From the secretary: For those looking for a way to commemorate the life of a beloved pet, I can recommend something we did for Carmella. We are avid supporters of the North Shore Animal League on Long Island, NY which does a fabulous job caring for homeless and abused animals. They ran a fundraiser awhile ago where you could buy a brick on their entrance walkway to honor someone...two-legged or four-legged. We purchased one to honor Carmella, especially because we think she was probably a puppy mill puppy and North Shore Animal League does a great deal of rescue work involving puppy mills. I'm going to try to get the photo of the brick on Nelly's page so you can all see what a great job they did. Just a thought for those of you searching for a way to honor a beloved pup. I know they do these bricks at many rescues and shelters.
And to Carmella, hope you felt the big kiss I sent your way this AM. Nelly says to be glad that your name doesn't rhyme with as many things as Nelly does...makes it harder for the secretary to sing to you. I'm sure you endure her Happy Birthday rendition every January 20 with earplugs. Bless you, sweetie!
Tomorrow will be the 9 year anniversary of the day we lost our sweet Carmella. Always a hard day for the secretary. She always flashes back to arriving at the vet after being called at work and finding that Carmella was already gone. Then she insisted on seeing her which may have been a mistake. She sat and cried and stroked Carmella' s little body (she was only 5 months old) and all she could seem to concentrate on was that Carmella hadn't even had enough time to lose a baby tooth. Sigh.
We are glad to have the image of Carmella partying away up at the Rainbow Bridge. She didn't have a chance to do much partying here on Earth. Her earthly remains currently reside in the secretary's underwear drawer. She was inordinately fond of the secretary's underwear so we thought that might be where she'd like to be. Plus, the secretary (not being Paris Hilton or Britney Spears) gets to blow her a kiss every morning while dressing.
Bless you sweetie! Momma misses you and thinks of you often.
