Yesterday At The Dogtor!

The dogtor yesterday said that Emma's lil' eye is now constricting almost normally... so the conclusion is that the atropine is what was causing that.

The right eye is a bit smaller than the other and she's still too little to get a full exam into the back of the eye, but evidently lots of pups have one eye smaller than the other and it causes no problems at all.... YAY!

She does have a bit of "dry eye" so we'll continue with the drops 5 times daily - but outside of that, she's doing great! :)

8 weeks old today!!!

Took a lil' trip to see the eye dogtor....

We just got back from the dogtors - - - I wanted to get Emma in to have the eye looked at, since it doesn't seem swollen or sore today and I didn't like the way her eyes were looking in pictures I'd taken over the past couple of days....

Dr. Neel wanted Emma to see Dr. Logan, which we did.

Evidently, she's progressed to having "dry eye" in both eyes, even though she's never had any problems with the left eye.... (she tested okay a couple weeks ago) - - and the right eye is smaller than the left.... (just a little at this point - but enough that I noticed it... ) - - - the pupil in the right eye is not constricting... but that COULD be caused by the atropine, so no more of that and they will recheck her again on Tuesday and we'll decide what to do from there if there is no change.

There's always the possibility that with one genetic defect - - we will see another.... and I've known that from the beginning..... and it MAY happen even, that in the long run - Emma doesn't have function of that eye..... but that worry is a long way off, so I'm told not to dwell on it now. These issues could fade and all may be perfectly fine with her.... so we'll just have to wait and see.

Other than that... she's doing well.... fat, healthy and as precious as she can be!!

Hi everyone! :)

There has been a press release go out re: Emma's story.... and it seems to have raised even more awareness of Emma's plight!

Emma is doing very well with having started on "real" food..... the 8 french tube is WAY too big for her and I'm not able to pass it.... the food mixure is too much for the tiny 5 fr tube we're currently using.... so I've cut the 8 fr tube down so that I can insert it into the mouth, wayyyy to the back - bypassing the cleft and drizzling the a/d mixture in drop by drop down her throat.

It's working alright... she's a little wiggle worm, so it makes placement of the tube in a manner that will not induce the gag reflex, leading to choking - a bit tough.... but, she's getting it - and the extra caloric / nutritional intake should be providing a marked improvement in her overall condition.

I'm still seeing some issues with that lil' eye.... but today it seems a tiny bit less irritated. I'm continuing with the ophthalmic ointment... Doc Ellen bumped the dosage up to 4 to 5 times daily.... as well, we've added a once daily dose of atropine for pain.

Since I am always with Emma, I don't always notice the many changes that occur in our girl on an almost daily basis..... so every time I create a new video of her - and go back over her images and less recent videos.... I am SO AMAZED!!

She has come SO FAR from that delicate little pup I brought home.... helpless and struggling..... growing into a spirited, independent young girl!!

I've said it a hundred times... and will continue to believe..... that our Lord has been with Emma from the moment she was born - - - - I am grateful to all of you who acknowledge my efforts here - and I too, give thanks for all of YOUR efforts!!!

Again and again I say - it's Emma and God who are doing the work!! I feel blessed and honored to know them BOTH!!! :)

God lives in us... works and heals through us............

Someone posted this on Emma's thread in another forum.... it certainly tells of truth!!!

Have a beautiful day everyone!!! :ghug: Thank you for helping to MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!! :)

The Starfish Story
Original Story by: Loren Eisley

One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed
a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean.

Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?”

The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean.
The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”

“Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish?
You can’t make a difference!”

After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish,
and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said…”
I made a difference for that one.

Vet Appointment: 1st Vaccinations - 1st REAL FOOD!!!

Well, Emma had her appointment yesterday evening with the dogtors for her first vaccination... (kinda' scary for me since her immune system has always been so compromised).

The visit was alright.... Emma SCREAMED for FIVE MINUTES after her lil' shot... poor baby....

Funny that the ONE shot, hurt her more than ANY of the other stuff she went through "when she was little"!! (or she's just growing up and learning if she screams, she gets attention! haha)

She's reallyyyyyy sleepy today..... doc gave her a tiny dose of Benadryl just in case she were to have any reaction to the vaccination.... and neither one of us slept all night - - - (she was acting a lil' "drunk" last night and I was being paranoid about it).

Her lil' eye started bothering her again yesterday morning, so I asked the vet to stain it again and check.... she wiggled too much to get an excellent look... but doesn't look to be any ulcers....

So... back on the eye ointment, and a little drop of something else once a day for eye pain.

I think she's scratching her eye with the lil' dew claw.... she always crosses her lil' paw paws and runs her face up and down her paws... think she's catching the eye on the dew claw.

We talked about having the dew claws removed when she's under for her surgery.

Doc measured her for a larger tube... so she's at an 8 french now... and we have a/d to start her on... mixed very thin with her formula.... started that today and she's doing really well with it.... (though I don't know if it's the REAL FOOD, full belly, no sleep or vaccinations that's keeping her so soundly asleep today).

We'll go back on the 16th for the second vaccination unless there are troubles or concerns in the mean time.

All is well.... she is weighing in at 13 ounces. :)
