I got my angel wings!

On Christmas Eve 2007 my precious Butterscotch went to the Rainbow Bridge. She went peacefully in her sleep. She was buried in the woods in the back yard. There are trees to shade her from the hot sun of the day and protect her from the rain. The spot we choose allows the morning sun to come through.

We will miss her deeply.

I got my teeth fixed!

Butterscotch went to Cumberland Valley Vet Cinic on December 17th for surgery to fix her teeth. I stayed over night at the local Motel 6 and waited patiently for her surgery to be over with on the 18th.

The doctor came out on the day of the 18th to inform me that my girl had made it through surgery. It was after 2pm. She was heavily medicated and they would not let me see her. They wanted to keep her over night, because of the extent of her surgery. She had a total of 16 teeth removed and had extensive tissue and gum damage.

The next day I called the vets office every hour waiting for news from about my girl. Finally at 1pm they told me I could come get her. I was 3 hours away and loaded up the kids quickly and headed back to Maryland. The minute they walked her out to see us she came running over, fell to the floor and rolled over for a belly rub! She was so excited to be going home!

She would not eat for the vet, but when we got home we cooked fresh chicken for her and chopped it up real fine. She loved it and ate every bite, looking for more.

By the third day she was back to her old self, eating and drinking like normal.

Happy Birthday Zachary!

Today was my youngest two legged brothers' birthday. He turned 9 today. I got to go with my family when they went to celebrate. We all loaded up in the BUV and went to the flying circus in Bealton! It was really fun. I got as much attention as the airplanes did. Everybody wanted to come and pet me. I might even have some bald spots from being loved on so much. I thought I was being STALKED by one lady. She came by and petted me atleast a gazillion times! It was getting scary. She told my mommy she just loved Basset Hounds! Of course, what's not to love about us?

I got to walk around and see all the airplanes and I saw a man flying in the sky and he had another man that must have wanted to get down because he was outside the plane walking around on the wingy things trying to find a way to get down. One time he even hung upside on the wing and tried to reach the ground. I got a really good picture of me with my two legged sister and my youngest two legged brother. I have another two legged brother but he's at an age he doesn't like to walk around with mommy and me. He thinks he's grown.

I felt kind of sad for Pokey, because she didn't get to go. Mommy said Pokey hadn't learned to behave in public yet and needed more training before going around other doggies and little children. Pokey likes to bark and bite strange doggies and she likes to jump on every body. Mommy has been trying really hard to get her to stop, but she's still a pup so it will take a little while. Pokey just gets to do small trips around our neighborhood until she can behave better. Mommy brought Pokey some chicken home though, so she was happy.

It's been a busy couple of days!

I have been a very busy basset these past couple of days. Yesterday was spa day. I got my nails painted red and a nice brushing. I could lay on the sofa all day long and get brushed. Course when Pokey started cleaning my ears that was too much and I had to get up. How's a girl suppose to walk around with wet ears all the time?

MommyPerson got a very good email yesterday too! I don't know if I mentioned that my previous owners let my teeth get really really bad. Most of my back teeth will have to be removed and I have several really bad abcesses on my gums. Mommy had talked to the vet, but it was going to cost a lot of money for all the work I need done. She started looking for some help for me and someone did help! They got me into a clinical trial thingy and I have an appointment on December 18th to get my teeth fixed. That is if my bloodwork all comes back good. I am going to vet next week to get that done. Then they will know if I can have the surgery or not. I have my paws crossed that I will be able to. These tooths hurt real bad. Mommy has been giving me antibiotics and pain pills the vet gave her and she gives me soft foods so I can eat better.

The animal hospital that is going to fix my teeth is over 2 1/2 hours away from my house. My mommyperson is going to go stay up there with me. She said she would feel better if she was closer to me in case I need her for something. I'm a little scared, but I'm excited to be getting my tooths fix too. Mommyperson said I shouldn't be hurting anymore once that is done.

October 23, 2007 Petsmart Howloween

You won't believe what happened me to me! I have only been with my new family for 2 weeks now. They have given me belly rubs, petted my head, and fed me lots of COOKIES!!! But they have never done to me what they did tonight!

I knew something was up when my momhuman and sissyhuman started pulling out all these pretty flowers, you know they kind that looks pretty only they don't smell and have a bland taste to them. Momhuman kept saying something about artificial, I don't know what artifishall is, but I know them weren't no real flowers. Then she had this black thingy with funny stuff coming out of it. She kept putting in on the flowers and yelling about it burning her. She spent a couple of hours working on this funny looking thing. I slept most of the time, cause she didn't have no cookies in it.

Next thing I know sissyhuman was putting funny human fur covers on me and trying those artifishall flowery thingy to my head. She said I was a scarecrow. I sure didn't feel like no scarecrow, but I must have been because I had a bird on top of my flower thingy, only it didn't move so it must have been dead. Maybe I scared it to death?

They put me in our van and we went on a trip. I like riding in the car. We stopped at a big building and I didn't want to go in but momhuman made me go any way. I won't not have believe it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes.. That building was filled with toys, fluffy pillows, food, nice human people and COOKIES!!! Lots and lots of COOKIES!!! I had to sit pretty to for sissyhuman, but she feed me some cheesy COOKIES, so it was okay. Then they made us stand in this big circle. It was 25 doggies and their humans . They made each of us walk out in the middle of the circle. After we did that, this nice human man made me a some other doggies come back out into the middle. When he was finished he gave my mommyhuman a pretty red ribbon and some kind of plastic card. Mommyhuman said I had won 2nd place for my "costume" and got a $19 gift card. I bet she can buy me lots of COOKIES with that card!
