I'm Fixed!

In my last diary entry, I told you all that I had overheard Mom & Dad talking about getting me a surgery to fix me, even though I wasn't sure what was broken. Well, yesterday was the big day . . . . . .

The day started out like any other, but quickly turned from normal to not so normal. We got up about the same time as always, and usually we get our breakfast right away. But we went outside without eating. That was strange. I should have known at that point that something was up. Mom left for work and then Dad loaded Nikara and me into the car - which was cool cuz we love to go for rides. But instead of going to a drive-through where we usually get treats (like at the bank or McDonald's), we went to the vet. They're very nice people there, but I have to admit it's not my favorite place in the world to go.

So, we're at the vet, and Dad takes me in first. He gets me weighed (I weigh 100lbs!) and then hands me off to a nice vet tech who takes me in the back. This is strange too - usually Mom or Dad come with me and we go into an examination room. Little did I know, this would be the last time I saw my Dad for what seemed like an eternity!

It turns out my surgery was called a neuter, and for those of you who've not gone through it, let me tell ya - you're not missing anything!! When I got out of the surgery, I felt so sleepy and I had an incision that hurt. The nice people at the vet gave me some pain medicine so that made things a little better.

Dad finally got to pick me up about 3 o'clock. Boy was I happy to see him! I was kind of wobbly walking down the hallway to greet him and Dad and the lady at the counter were laughing at me. But then we went to the car and I got to go HOME! I don't really remember much more than that about last night - everything's kind of fuzzy.

Today I feel much better! And I'm getting lots of love and treats from Mom & Dad. All in all, I guess this surgery thing worked out ok, but I still really don't know what they fixed on me. Oh well.

Thanks to all my pals for helping me through this with their support and encouragement!

I'm Broken and I'm Naughty

So, I heard Mom & Dad talking tonight about something called a surgery they're going to have done to "fix" me. I guess I'm broken, but I'm not sure what's broken. Nothing hurts . . . . I don't know what a surgery is either - or for that matter, how a surgery can fix something if it's not broken! Also, they said they've been thinking about getting this surgery thing for a long time and should have done it sooner. So I guess I've been broken for a long time.

Also, I'm naughty. Yesterday I peed in the bathroom. I got yelled at. I don't like getting yelled at.

Hope all my pals are doing good!! I'll write more later after I'm fixed :)

Mom & I were asked to be the Malamute breed representative at the Madison Dog Fair! How cool is that?! We get to hang out all day and asnwer people's questions about Malamutes . . . . and I get to be petted by lots and lots of new friends! I guess this Canine Good Citizen thing is starting to pay off :)

Mom is a little nervous and hopes that I can manage to behave myself for the whole day. I know I can do it - she doesn't need to worry.

The dog fair is on November 9th - copy this address into your web browser to download the flyer if you want more information: http://badgerkennelclub.com/docs/2008_df_flyer.pdf.

Hope to see you there!

Whoo-hoooo, Yippeeeeee - I graduated today!!

Today I graduated from Canine Good Citizen class. I passed my test and made Mom & Dad sooooo proud! The evaluator said I only had a little bit of trouble with one of the ten skills - walking on a loose leash. Well come on - I am a malamute after all. We're supposed to pull! I managed to behave myself just long enough to pass though. Plus, the evaluator said I did really, really good on all the other skills :)

Horray for me! Mom said we'll do something tonight to celebrate. I don't know what it'll be, but I sure hope it involves treats!

. . . . . NEWS FLASH!! . . . . .

Today I start my Canine Good Citizen class! I'm so excited :)

Yesterday I had to go visit the vet. Mom thought I might have a bladder infection. I was naughty a few times over the last week and pottied in the house. Well, turns out Mom was right - they found a small amount of bacteria in my urine. So now I have to be on medicine for 2 weeks. YUCK! I hate medicine! But, I guess it's better than being sick.

Take Your Dog to Work Day

So, I just logged on to Dogster and saw that today, aside from being the first full day of summer, which we northern dogs HATE, is Take Your Dog to Work Day. I'm wondering what I'm doing at home! My Mom's in Seattle for work . . . so how come I didn't get to go along?

I suppose I wouldn't have had too much fun in the cargo hold of the plane. I wonder if my therapy dog training could qualify me for a seat in first class?? That would be awesome!

I'm curious if any of my fellow Dogsters got to spend the day at work. Bark a diary entry to let us all know!

My first official therapy dog vist!

Hi Everybody,

Thought I should write to let you all know how my new job is going. I love it! As I last told you, Mom enrolled me in a therapy dog training class. I graduated a couple weeks ago. As I found out, "graduating" doesn't hurt at all - it was fun! I got to wear a funny looking hat and had my picture taken and got lots of treats! Now Mom & I can go cheer people up who can't live at home with their fur-family anymore.

So our first trip was last weekend. We got to visit with lots of people. Mom said I did real good! I got to give out unlimited kisses, got belly rubs & ear scratches, had hot dog bites & cheese for treats, and some people there even took my picture. They kept telling Mom how handsome I am! It was really fun to be the center of attention - not like in class where I had to share with everyone else! Don't get me wrong, sharing's ok, and I'm good at it, but jeez . . . . to have a whole room full of people just waiting to give out hugs and belly rubs is awesome! What more could a pup ask for??

That's all for now. Gotta go play outside before it rains today.

Hugs & Howls,
Kaitoke

I'M GOING TO BE A THERAPY DOG!!

I'm so excited, I just have to write to tell you all . . . . I've started Therapy Dog Training! I had my very first class last week, and I get to go again tonight! We're learning all about what to do to cheer up patients in hospitals and nursing homes. The teacher - Giene - is a really nice lady. She does therapy work with her black lab Maggie.

In class we have some funny looking contraptions that she says we'll see when we begin our work. One is a chair on wheels. It was kind of scary at first - chairs aren't supposed to move like that! And the wheels made a squeaky noise when it moved too. Once I got used to it, it wasn't so scary anymore. Another funny looking thing was a metal device with tennis balls on the bottom. I guess it's called a walker and helps people get around when their legs don't work like they used to. What a waste of tennis balls! I wanted to play with them, but Mom said no :(

I get to do something called "graduate" in a few weeks. I wonder what that is?? I hope it doesn't hurt! Anyway, Mommy says we'll have a little party after I graduate - and parties always involve lots of yummy treats. So whatever graduate is, it'll be worth it in the end!

OK, that's it for now. I'll let you all know how things go when I start working!

PS - today is my sister Nikara's birthday!!

My First Two Months on Dogster!

Well, I've been on Dogster for over 2 months now, so I figured it's about time I start a diary! I'm so glad mom found this site - Nikara & I are having so much fun. We've made some great friends so far, and are excited to check in every day to see if we've received new paw mail or pup pal requests - or if pup pal requests we've sent have been answered. We also are anxious each day to see if there's good news about our pal Blue. I'm not sure about Nikara, but I know when I go visit Santa Paws this year, I'm asking him for only 1 thing - that Blue gets to be home with his family for Christmas!

I just got home last night from a boarding kennel. Mom & dad were out of town over Thanksgiving. I didn't have very much fun there. The owners are real nice and they take great care of us, but it snowed and was cold - and where was the king size bed and my couch?! There was an inside area for me to go into, but it was much more fun to be in the outside part watching all the other dogs (and even a goat!) - except for the darn snow. Mom was mad because I had just gotten a bath, but since I got wet in the snow I came home kinda stinky!

Speaking of baths . . . . . I don't like them much. I don't mind the actual bath part, but when we get there, we have to go into crates until it's our turn. Sometimes while I'm in the crate I can't see Nikara and I worry about where she is. Nope - don't like that part at all. So I cry and howl until the nice lady lets me out. Got her figured out, don't I?! :)

Well, that's about it for now. Thanks to everyone who's sent me rosettes, stars, paw mail & pup pal requests and for making me feel welcome!

Until I howl again,
Kaitoke
