We are not the first owners of Nala and her sister Smokey. For the first 6 or 7 years of there life they with a friend of mine(Ann) and her two kids. She had move from her to an apartment that didn't accept dogs. She had tried with other people to see if the dogs would stay. The dogs didn't seem to like being with too many people as they would bark at the door all day long. Which I totally know they do now! A half an hour before I came home from work to go to my parents house, the dogs were there and they barked the whole time... Until I came home said their names and they ran to me. I didn't know all the history yet of the tried attempts to find other owners for the dogs and just having come home from work was kinda bombarded with "Will you take the dogs?" At first I didn't have an answer and with that Ann thought it was a "No". It wasn't I just didn't have time to think about it. She took them to find someone else. Later my future mother - in - law called to say that Ann might have to take the dogs to the SPCA. Knowing that and how hard it was to find the someone they took a liking to, I called Ann and said "Bring them back!" Smokey and her sister have been with us ever since and we love them dearly.
Smokey a year ago went through surgery and had some of her small intesines removed. She recently 2/23/08 went through another surgery for an infected uterus. She is a little tired but seems to be healing.
Smokey recovered fully and spent a couple more happy years with us. But in 2009 she began to have back problems (fused vertebrae, she always was too much dog for her little body). In October this became bad enough to practically paralyze her and lead to heart failure. She saw the vet for the last time on October 9, 2009, and she will be dearly missed.
You were a great dog, worth every pat, penny, tear and treat, and your people still love you.
Rest in peace.
