Arrival Story:
Hi, my name is Simon and I'm from a litter of 5 pups that were all blues dachshunds. My mommy and daddy had been dogless for just over a month and couldn't take it any more. I was mommy's birthday gift!! From the minute I first saw her, I ran as fast and I could, she picked me up and I couldn't stop kissing her! I guess blue dachshunds are kinda rare, so my mommy had to figure out how to take care of me since I don't really have a fur coat. I need lots of blankets and places to burrough, and I easily get overheated, so I need to stay out of the sun. I never stay outside for more than 10 minutes , so I am definitly an inside dog. I went to Trick school and Obedience school in Long Beach, CA and Mommy says that I'm a very Good Dog! A few years ago, I got really sick (pancretitus) and had to stay at the Vet Hospital for 3 days. Now I can only eat special dog food (Royal Canine LF), but I'm doing fine now.

Forums Motto:
Simon Says... Dachshunds Rule!

What is a Blue Dachshund?:
A Blue (or blue and tan) is the dilute version of black and tan. The dachshunds main body color is an even steel bluish-gray, and he has tan markings in the same areas as a black and tan dog. Blue dachshunds have coat problems known as Color Dilution Alopecia (or CDA) such as very thin coats (this hair loss, is also known as alopecia).

I was born on March 16, 1996 in Lakewood, CA. My parents were both smoothies (mom was Red and dad was Black & Tan). Together, they gave me the recessive gene for a smooth, Blue dachshund.

Blue dachshunds are a dilute of the Black & Tan (isabella is a dilute of the Red, in case your were wondering). I'm a steel gray sorta a color and in addition to that, I also have Alopecia (hair-loss). When I say hair-loss, I basically mean, ALL of IT! I am practically hairless. No shedding here.

Quick showers, not a problem for me. I dry in 5 seconds flat! But, there are a few drawbacks. I really don't stay outside very long because I'm either too cold or too hot. I heard that blues are proned to skin cancer, so I try to stay out of the sun or wear sunscreen when it can't be prevented. Mommy buys me those rediculous sweaters (which I hate), but if I want be outdoors and it's cold, I'm really glad to have it on (don't tell mom, or she'll buy more!)

Mommy keeps an ample supply of blankies all around the house too, so I can cover-up when we're watching TV or working in her office on the computer. She even has a sleeping bag under the endtable in the living room where I love to crawl in and take a nap!

All in all, it's a pretty good life even though I'm basically naked!
