In the Veterinary HospitalJuly 11th 2008 2:40 pm[ Leave A Comment ]
This is Abby's mom, Jenna. Today we brought Abby to the vet and we left her there. We will be picking her up Monday morning. The doctors want to give some injections, an IV, do more x-rays. She will go on a special dog food blend and will be carefully watched. The vets aren't sure what caused her vomit 25 times in one day. All they know is that this is highly unusual. They think that something may be wrong with her intestions. They also think that maybe switching back and forth on medication and shots may have caused her stomach to upset.
Walking Better, but Getting SickerJuly 11th 2008 11:32 am[ Leave A Comment ]
While my birthday yesterday was wonderful, today is not going as well.
A Bright Future!July 9th 2008 1:51 pm[ Leave A Comment ]
GOOD NEWS!!! Abby doesn't have kidney failure, and her disease most probably wont be fatal. At the vet Abby got a steroid shot and new medication. She had a fever at the vet's office, too. Abby is now on Amoxicillian. The vet doesn't know exactly why Abby didn't react well with the Doxycycline. The vet thinks that Abby will be walking better by Thursday. I hope so! The vet also said that Abby's Lyme's Disease may not be the only thing causing her to limp. He thinks that Abby had already had some joint problems from birth and the Lyme's Disease aggravated the joint problems. She may also have an auto-immune deficiency, which is not allowing her to react to medication. If Abby isn't looking better by Thursday, we'll bring her back to the vet and they'll run more blood work and x-rays. The vet said that her future looked bright and clear with maybe a few bumps along the way.
Just Getting Worse...July 8th 2008 12:40 pm[ Leave A Comment ]
This is Abby's mom talking. Abby will be going in today for an emergancy vet visit at 6:45 pm EST. With Abby's new medication, we thought she was getting better. The first few days with the pills seemed to help her slightly. We were told by our vet that in 4 days time Abby would be back to normal. She has only gotten worse. It's been about 2 weeks since Abby's last vet visit and she was scheduled for a check up next week. My mom called the vet today because Abby is in such pain and we can't stand to see her like this. She can barely walk and it's a horrific sight to try and watch her get up. Her front right back slips alot and she falls. Her back left leg slips too, and she loses her balance. Abby is only almost two! Her birthday is this Thursday! She shouldn't be sick like this! My mom and I are so worried about the news the vet is going to give us today. My mom is afraid that Abby will never be able to go for a jog with me again. She may never walk straight again... I will keep you all updated with Abby's condition. My prayers go out to all dogs and their owners who must deal with this terrible Lyme's Disease. God bless you!

Throw-up... Yuck!July 3rd 2008 5:41 am[ Leave A Comment ]
Last night after I ate dinner I was lounging around with my family in the living room. With my lymes, I'm not supposed to romp around too much. So for the past week I have strictly listened to my vet, I have only slept and limped around a little. Mommy hates seeing me so tired all the time, and I was starting to get very bored last night. I got up, grabbed my rubber tug-of-war toy, and walked the toy over to mom. She figured a little bit of play wouldn't hurt me, so we played around the living room for a few minutes. Mom made sure she was careful with me and put the toy away when I started to get too rowdy. After that, I went in the hallway and mom found me throwing up. Mom cleaned up the vomit and I went to the kitchen to get a drink of water.
Feeling A Little Bit BetterJune 30th 2008 6:48 am[ Leave A Comment ]
Everyday I'm feeling a little bit better with my medication that the vet perscribed to me. I'm taking Doxycycline as my antibiotic for the lyme's disease and Rimadyl to help the pain in my joints. My limp has gotten better, but when I first wake up in the morning and right before I go to sleep, my limp is at its worst. Jenna says that I definitly seem more lively and happy, which I have to agree with. But for right now, my favorite thing to do is still just to rest and relax.
Lyme's Disease...June 29th 2008 5:36 am[ Leave A Comment ]
Well, it had been a week since my last vet appointment and I was feeling worse than ever. I couldn't walk and I didn't want to go outside to go potty. Jenna and her mom were very concerned for me, so they set up an emergency vet appointment for me. At the vet's office, my vet took some x-rays and did some blood work. I was too tired and weak to even be scared. Then my vet brought me to Jenna and her mom and talked to them for a good 10 minutes. I heard something about Lyme's Disease... The vet said that Lyme's Disease is caused by a tick bite, but Jenna's mom hasn't found a tick on me since last year! Jenna and her mom were so upset, but I don't get why. The vet said that I'll be okay soon! Now I have to take two pills every morning and night for two months. As the vet was talking, Jenna started to cry. I wanted to lick her tears away, but I was too weak. But the good news is, Jenna gave me two of my pills yesterday and I'm feeling better already! The vet said that by the end of the weak I should be back to normal, which sounds great to me!
A Day at the VetsJune 20th 2008 8:11 pm[ Leave A Comment ]
Last week Mommy noticed that I'd been limping, so she didn't walk me all week. She had hoped that my limp would get better over the week, but it didn't. Today Mommy made an appointment for me to see the vet. Mommy told that I was very good at the vet's office. I didn't bark or growl, I just sat in her lap peacefully. When the vet looked at me, she told Mommy that I had some soft tissue between my bones in my shoulder. Nothing serious, the vet said that it very common in dogs. Now I have to take a pill every morning and night for one week. Not too bad, and I'm feeling better already!
