Arrival Story:
Mommas children have all grown up and moved away, they were worried about her because she had a severe accident when they were very young ages 9, 7, and 5, that had left momma in a coma and hospitalized with a skull fracture and bleeding in her brain with massive swelling and bruising . She had a massive traumatic head injury plus a spinal cord injury, momma was paralyzed from the neck down. _________________________________ Momma had a very daunting task and struggle ahead of her with years and years of recovery due to someone else's negligence. (pawmail for more) . So they got this tiny puppy for Christmas one year. Coming at Christmas is the reason behind my name St. Nickolas, and momma says I have been a gift ever since. She says I have a heart as big as the universe. I wonder how big that could be? _________________________________ Momma said I was tiny like a mouse, and I'm still so tiny she worries about me. I love to make furends, but my first interest is to my momma MaryEllen. I have been with my momma since I was born. I knows so much about her that I developed the ability to sense when she was going to have a SEIZURE and I would start to bark at momma differently than when an alarm goes off. The first time it happened Momma wouldn't listen to me, I was so upset with her because I did everything my 'lil self could do to get her to understand me I though. That day she had, at the YMCA a grand-mal seizure and had to be rushed to the hospital and stayed for two days. She realized that I (Nickolas) was telling her something. From that time on if I acted like that she would stay home. She would have the SEIZURE at home and her son Jon was close by take care of her. Momma could just go to bed and be safe and I was right by her side. _________________________________ I (Nickolas) alert momma to her phone, door, stove, buzzers, alarm clocks, strangers, or someone at the door, and squirels if need be!Even at night if she were to have a seizure in her sleep I help by licking her face and barking to wake up her son. Momma loves me so very much, and I love momma so very much too! _________________________________

Bio:
My best talent is my ability to detect SEIZURES! Momma now has PACEMAKERbecause her heart just stops (due to her brain injury) and so I have to watch her closely and her balance is off. Her motorized car is pawsome and I can ride with her because I am small enough to fit in the basket. She and I have learned to walk with her cane. She has been through several mini strokes and one big one. I did not like it when she had to stay at the hospital for a week and all the other times for days on end it just seems like it will never end. I as her faithful companion stay by her side everywhere she goes I go. I love her very much. Momma will have extremely bad seizures (due to her brain injury) and be gone for a few days because she will be in the hospital. She had a severe accident that had given her skull fracture and brain injury with spinal cord injury, she had to relearn how to walk and talk. Her Dr.s gave her no prognosis of recovery. She was in a coma and had bleeding in her brain with massive swelling. She had no memory of people or of anything like a newborn....My Momma had been married for 22years and had three children 9,7,5 years old when she was tragically struck down. She owned her own Photography Studio was on the Board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce. She was active with so many community events, her kids were involved as well. So when they were told she was never coming home they couldn't accept that answer and got on the phone and started making calls to some of mommas friends. If you want to know more of journey story please contact us at our paw~mail. Well I did it I got my Service Dog Achievement to be able to go everywhere my mommy goes. Unless of course she is unconscious with a seizure then I will go home because mommy will go to the hospital. I wear my vest and tags proudly!!! Nickolas I love you my Dear Darling Soul who has walk this long lonely journey traumatic head & brain injury the silent disability.

A Different- Kind of Holiday

A Different Kind of Holiday

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.

The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know, Then the
sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.

Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.
A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.

'What are you doing?' I asked without fear,
'Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!'
For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts..

To the window that danced with a warm fire's light
Then he sighed and he said 'Its really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night.'
'It's my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.

No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died at ' Pearl on a day in December,'
Then he sighed, 'That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers.'
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of ' Nam ',
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.

I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.
Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red, white, and blue... an American flag.
I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.

I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother..
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall.'

' So go back inside,' he said, 'harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right.'
'But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
'Give you money,' I asked, 'or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son.'

Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
'Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us.'

PLEASE, would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many
people as you can? The Holidays will be coming soon and some credit is due to our
U.S service men and women for our being able to celebrate these
festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people
stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us.

“Love for Our Children” by Erica Elliott

Here is a story that might pull at your heart strings...

The man came home from work late again, tired and irritated, to find his 5 year old son with his puppy waiting for him at the door.
“Daddy, may I ask you a question?”
“Yeah, sure, what is it?” replied the man.
“Daddy, how much money do you make an hour?”
“That’s none of your business! What makes you ask such a thing?” the man asked angrily.

“I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?” pleaded the little boy.
“If you must know, I make $20.00 an hour.”
“Oh,” the little boy replied, head bowed. Looking up, he said, “Daddy, may I borrow $10.00
please?”

The father was furious. “If the only reason you wanted to know how much money I make is just so you can borrow some to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you’re being so selfish. I work long, hard hours everyday and don’t have time for such childish games.”

The little boy quietly went to his room followed by his little puppy and shut the door. The man sat down and started to get even madder about the little boy’s questioning. How dare him ask such questions only to get some money? After an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think he may have been a little hard on his son. Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $10.00, and he really didn’t ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy’s room and opened the door. The pup sat up when the door came open.

“Are you asleep son?”
he asked.
“No Daddy, I’m awake,” replied the boy.
“I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier,” said the man. “It’s been a long day and I took my aggravation out on you. Here’s that $10.00 you asked for.”

The little boy sat straight up, beaming. “Oh, thank you Daddy!” he yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow, he pulled out some more crumpled up bills. The man, seeing that the boy already had money, started to get angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, then looked up at the man.

“Why did you want more money if you already had some?” the father grumbled.

“Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do,” the little boy replied. “Daddy, I have $20.00 now.
Can I buy an hour of your time, oh please daddy, please?”

I- Met a Young Woman...

I Met a Young Woman...

"At the peak of my life...
when I was strident and self assured,
when I leaped with joy across golden fields,
when I held my head high like a soaring bird,
I met a young woman one evening at a Balboa Park Ballroom dance.

She was so gentle and so sweet, that a fire was lit in my heart...
I stood there watching her as if I were cast in a spell.

O how precious was that second when she told me her name...
in her deep, dark probing eyes I glimpsed a gentle flame.

With an angel's face and brown soothing eyes like an immortal child's, a radiant smile revealed her innocence and happiness...

She was the dream of my heart come true, whose beautiful smile awakened the slumbering Prince within me, whose laughter resounded like music in my soul.

She was pensive, untamable, gypsy-like, she was a mosaic of beauty, grace and magic...."

I asked for her hand to make her my bride she said yes.
