Farewell to my best doggie friend and constant companion

On Sunday, June 22, 2009, my best doggie friend and constant companion since my Doggie-Mommy brought me home almost four years ago, Adela, died. We are all very, very sad about this and I feel a little lost, even when I go to my doggie daycare, where everyone loved Adela and I. Everyone is being very nice and loving toward me, but I still feel out of sorts and I can see that my Doggie-Mommy does, too. I had never lived without Adela since I came to live with Doggie-Mommy and Doggie-Mommy hasn't been without Adela since she was rescued in Mexico City in 1996. We will love and miss her forever. Farewell, my dear, best friend.

It's my Birthday and I'll bark if I want to...

Tomorrow I turn THREE! Yippee!

What is Doggy Mommy doing to us?

I'm at the doggy hospital. I don't like this one bit. First my "sister", Adela, goes away and comes back with a big yellow bandage and lots of drugs to take and then she goes away again and comes back with an even bigger yellow bandage and more drugs to take, and now it's my turn to be in the hospital getting surgery. This sucks!

Good thing I love Doggy Mommy so much or I'd plan to run away with Adela and join a circus where we could be safe from more trips to the doctor. I sure hope that Doggy Mommy comes and gets me soon. I want to go home!

My pal Adela is back home!

Adela had her surgery this week and she is now back home with me and Doggy Mommy. She smells a little different, has a big bandage on her hip and seems pretty sleepy, but otherwise she looks like the same old Adela. I am so glad to have her back. And I'm glad to have Doggy Mommy around all the time, too, with us. I think she's playing hookey from work. Woo hoo!

Why is my big "sister" acting so strangely?

For the last few days, I've noticed my best pal and big "sister", Adela, behaving differently. Today, she even snarled at Doggy Mommy and she's been quite cross with me from time to time lately as well. A little over a week ago, Adela had a big seizure, or that's what Doggy Mommy called it, and I was so, so scared. I was trying to help, but Doggy Mommy told me to settle down and try to be calm. I tried my best to be good, but I wasn't really calm. Instead, I wouldn't let Adela out of my sight and I slept with her all night to make sure she didn't have any more of that weird stuff happen. Doggy Mommy took her to the Doctor the same day and I thought that would be the end of it. Adela sure looked fine to me, although she was a little crabby with me when I kept sniffing her all over to see if she'd been damaged by the Doggy Doctor.

She seemed alright for a few days, but then since Tuesday she's been back to the Doggy Doctor and then a hospital. I've been beside myself, as Doggy Mommy says, and it didn't help when Doggy Mommy was crying all the time, even if she did keep telling me it would be okay and that I was okay. I know that I'm okay! It's my big sister I'm worried about! Doesn't Doggy Mommy get that?

Anyway, now Adela has circles drawn on her one hip and today she had a little bandage around one ankle. Doggy Mommy has been much more cheerful but it's hard not to worry a bit, because Adela almost never loses her patience with me, but today and yesterday she's gotten quite cross when I'm only try to make sure, once again, that she's not damaged. I think that maybe she's not feeling quite herself. I wish I knew what to do to make it all better.

Do any of you know? Maybe you could send your howls of hope and healing woofs our way? I think that maybe that would help my big sister get back to her old self again.

Thank you!

Please say Doggy Prayers or give a Woof of Hope for my- "sister", Adela - she needs your help

Today is not turning out to be a very good day. I'm really confused and Doggy Mommy seems sad and scared, though I see her trying to put on her Brave Face for me, just like she did with my sister, Adela, before we dropped Adela off at some place that smelled an awful lot like our Doctor's office today.

Doggy Mommy is using words I don't really understand, like "mast cell tumor" and "hot tumor" and she says that Adela has a very aggressive one of those that has doubled in size since Doggy Mommy first noticed it four days ago and took Adela to the Doctor to have it biopsied.

I've never seen Doggy Mommy so scared, even though she's trying to tell me it's all okay and that I'm a Very Good Girl. I miss Adela. I wish she were here.

Can you help? If you can, please say some doggie prayers for Adela or give her a Woof of Hope. We could use your support and prayers. Thanks, everyone.

Hannah

We have visitors!

This weekend, Doggy-Mommy decided to bring my friends, Kandy and Vir, over to visit. Kandy is the same age as my big sister and weighs only 6 pounds! You'd never know it, though, the way she likes to boss me around. I don't mind, really, but sometimes it can be a little tricky for me to contain my enthusiasm when I see Kandy and her big (read "ROUND!") brother, Vir.

Adela and I were very gracious hosts; we let our guests share the food Doggy-Mommy makes for us, I taught Kandy how to get your feet really dirty and to guard our territory, and I invited Vir to check out my princess bed (I think maybe it's a prince bed when he's using it). This morning, we all got very excited because we could smell the slow-cooker working its magic all night and it was time for Doggy-Mommy to get up and SHARE THE LOVE!

I like having visitors. Wanna come over?

Just because, it has been a while since I spilled the beans

So, it's been a busy summer. Doggy-Mommy went away for a bit and left us with her Dad, who took us for plenty of walks and generally spoiled us by having contractors in to work on his basement, which meant he spent loads of time at home. We liked that plenty. Of course, then he went back to work, which we didn't like as much and we missed Doggy-Mommy. Then Doggy-Mommy came back and life was back to normal. Then Doggy-Mommy lost her voice. She sounded really funny!

While away, Doggy-Mommy got us new bandanas. Mine is purple and says "Because I'm the Princess, that's why!" and Adela's is red and says "Brains of the Family". That's what SHE thinks!

I've tried really hard not to sharpen my teeth on any more of Doggy-Mommy's Italian leather shoes. I think that she appreciates this, though I'm not sure that she appreciates how hard it is for me to resist the temptation to go after those sparkly shoes she got this summer. Then again, the rhinestones might get stuck in my teeth. I would not like that.

Adela and I have discovered that postal delivery people who carry dog treats are the next best thing to Pig Ears and Lamb Lung treats! Actually, I must confess that the postal carrier's treats are not as fancy and maybe even not as yummy as the treats that Doggy-Mommy gets for us, but I still like doing my Scary Watch Dog dance for the letter carrier, who dutifully appeases me with the treat, after which I let him through the gate to deliver Doggy-Mommy's mail.

I better go, it's lunch time for us Girls!

Phew! I thought I'd never escape the blades!

This afternoon, Doggy-Mommy scared the pants off of me. Okay, she called them "pantaloons" since they'd grown quite long since my last haircut. I really like my groomer, but today I felt really nervous and shy and overwhelmed and I would not stand up when she wanted to groom me. I did the Hannah Protest Dance. Some people have protest songs; I prefer a dance. It's a little complicated on the grooming table, trying to transform myself into a pancake while my head is held up high in something remarkably close to a noose. I'm not sure why Doggy-Mommy thinks that this sort of torture is agreeable to me, I've tried to show her on many occasions that it really isn't and I'd much prefer that she have me tranquilized so I just woke up looking pretty and feeling light and airy without having to endure brushes and clippers and nail dremels and combs and... oh, I almost forgot: the noose! I'm just glad it's over. I do feel better and I'm grateful that Doggy-Mommy asked my groomer to give me a shorter cut this time since it's been really hot out lately. I think I need a nap now, though... I'm tuckered!

Happy Birthday to me! Hannah and her sisters are now two!

Hi, everyone. I turned two yesterday. Today, I tried to tell Doggy-Mommy that even though I love being outside and I really appreciate her coming home at lunch to let Adela and I run around outdoors, I am most grateful that Doggy-Mommy had the forethought to have air conditioning installed last year. It's been mighty hot for me, especially since I am awaiting my next haircut this week. This weekend, I had a sleepover with Adela and Doggy-Mommy and my God-Doggy-Mommy, Kayla. We watched movies and the two-legged girls ate "junk food". I don't know why they call it that, when they'd slip me some, it tasted pretty good to me! I noticed that Adela didn't complain, either, when she got some. Funny two-legged dogs.
