Thanks to Old Dog Haven Razzie has had another lease on life.
Razzie is a 10 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi and she is from the Tacoma Humane Society. Razzie was rescued by Old Dog Haven and brought to the Veterinarian where I worked. This is where I met Razzie. Poor ol’ girl had a softball size growth on her front leg that hindered her walking. Horrible skin and ears that did not have the most pleasant smell, horrible dental disease and one eye that constantly had discharge. And last but not least, she was a little on the round side at 33 pounds. It was love at first sight.
I’ll tell you all now I have a soft spot for Corgis but Razzie was something different. I knew under all that mess there was a happy go lucky pooch in there. Judith was kind enough to let me foster her, which I am eternally grateful. Old Dog Haven wanted to make sure she was healthy enough to be adopted so she had a full blood workup done up in which we found out why she was so marshmallowy, had bad skin, and why she was so tired all the time. It was because she had an undiagnosed thyroid condition which was causing all these problems. Razzie was put on thyroid medication, anti-biotics, anti-fungals, special shampoos, eye drops for dry eye and after all that was started she went to surgery to remove the growth on her leg and to fix her not so pearly white teeth.
Razzie’s surgery was three days after coming to the rescue. She had a full dental where she had 12 teeth removed that were either dead or unable to be saved and she had her growth removed. She recovered from anesthesia and I took her home later that day. A couple days after the surgery she was running around like a puppy. She was having the time of her life. Looking at the pictures of her before, I wonder how it was to realize you could walk normally and eat without your mouth hurting again. Prior to the surgery she had to swing her leg out to the side so she could walk which must not have been comfortable.
Razzie has been with me now for almost 8 months. Her skin is 100% better, her ears are all cleared up, teeth look beautiful, eye is much better, and she’s down to 25.5 #, full of energy and best of all happy as she could be. All of this wouldn’t be possible without the wonderful people at Old Dog Haven.
Thank you Judith and Old Dog Haven!
