Thanks to Old Dog Haven Razzie has had another lease on life.
Razzie is a 10 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi and she is from the Tacoma Humane Society. Razzie was rescued by Old Dog Haven and brought to the Veterinarian where I worked. This is where I met Razzie. Poor ol’ girl had a softball size growth on her front leg that hindered her walking. Horrible skin and ears that did not have the most pleasant smell, horrible dental disease and one eye that constantly had discharge. And last but not least, she was a little on the round side at 33 pounds. It was love at first sight.
I’ll tell you all now I have a soft spot for Corgis but Razzie was something different. I knew under all that mess there was a happy go lucky pooch in there. Judith was kind enough to let me foster her, which I am eternally grateful. Old Dog Haven wanted to make sure she was healthy enough to be adopted so she had a full blood workup done up in which we found out why she was so marshmallowy, had bad skin, and why she was so tired all the time. It was because she had an undiagnosed thyroid condition which was causing all these problems. Razzie was put on thyroid medication, anti-biotics, anti-fungals, special shampoos, eye drops for dry eye and after all that was started she went to surgery to remove the growth on her leg and to fix her not so pearly white teeth.
Razzie’s surgery was three days after coming to the rescue. She had a full dental where she had 12 teeth removed that were either dead or unable to be saved and she had her growth removed. She recovered from anesthesia and I took her home later that day. A couple days after the surgery she was running around like a puppy. She was having the time of her life. Looking at the pictures of her before, I wonder how it was to realize you could walk normally and eat without your mouth hurting again. Prior to the surgery she had to swing her leg out to the side so she could walk which must not have been comfortable.
Razzie has been with me now for almost 8 months. Her skin is 100% better, her ears are all cleared up, teeth look beautiful, eye is much better, and she’s down to 25.5 #, full of energy and best of all happy as she could be. All of this wouldn’t be possible without the wonderful people at Old Dog Haven.
Thank you Judith and Old Dog Haven!

OMD so today has been a little on the scarry side for me.
The day started out like normal, Mommy gets up and lets us all outside to go potty. We (Jasmine and I) go down the first step out of the house, take a right go about 5 feet then go down another 2 stairs to the grass. Well today I didn't make it. I ran out the door, turned and tried to go down the stairs. The problem was there was this small metal plant stand in the way of my bunny butt. As I went down the last two steps I hit the plant stand, thankfully it was empty, fell in the grass and rolled over. That was all fine and dandy, I roll over all the time but when I tried to get up my back legs didn't work. OMD it was really strange. Mommy came running over, bathrobe and all picked up my hind end and checked my feet? I don't know why they were still there, but she started playing with my feet seeing if I would place them correctly to stand on. Well I didn't place them at all, I didn't even feel her playing with them. Then Mommy whisked me up, yelled at Jasmine to get back inside and placed me back in the dog crate.
From there Mommy got on the phone called the Emergency Vet where she works and gave them the heads up that she was bringing me in. Well I don't know what the fuss was about because by the time Mommy got me out of the crate I could move my back end again. I mean I wasn't moving perfect but I was moving. Either way Mommy picked me up and put me in another crate in the car and whisked me away to work. I feel bad for her it was her day off and she had to take me to work, but I guess she was really worried about me.
So anyarrooo, we get to work the Dogter plays with my feet, by that time I was fixing one of my feet but the other one was a little slow. Made me walk a little bit and I could tell something wasn't right because I would step, step, step, swoosh.. I don't know what the swoosh was but I think it was my last foot acting funny. That swooosh was really concerning Mommy and the Dogter so they made Mommy put on this strange gown and lay me down on a table and take what is called an X-ray? Humm. I wonder what it was but I guess that X-ray told them abunch about me.
The Dogter say's that I am a strange dog. I am missing a rib, have a pinched nerve in my back and have a hip that isn't very good. Dogter say's I must have had the rib removed and had previous damage to the area due to arthritis? in the same area, possibly due to being hit by a car or some other trauma because Dogters don't remove ribs for no reason. Anyway, so the Dogter say's I am very lucky it wasn't worse. She thinks its because I was already on Prednisone, an anti-inflamatory steroid, which is what they use for pinched nerves some times. I am on it because Mommy found out I have hot spots and food allergies and I chewed myself nekkid acouple weeks ago. Dogter says I have to stay in the crates for the next couple days and Mommy has to carry me outside to go potty until the end of the week. But Mommy say's no more walks for a while it's too much work for my back but she said I could swimming! OMD I hope the weather gets nice so we can, I really love swimming! Anyarrooo, I have to go get back to my crate now . If my Mommy finds out I've been out she'll get scared I'll hurt myself again.
Sincerely,
Razzie
