Favorite Walk: Short walks to the park
Best Tricks: At 13, just being the wonderful senior gal that she is!
Arrival Story: Tara was a free to good home pup given to us 13 years ago. My sister knew the woman who had the litter and she gave us Tara. Despite the fact she gave us her AKC papers, we had her spayed as soon as she was 6 months old. We don't condone breeding without the betterment of the breed as the #1 purpose. Tara is a wonderful little girl and very petite. She has also gone deaf, but I think that has made her even more lovable!
Bio: Tara was very healthy for the first 10 years of her life, but these last three have been more challenging. In 2004 she tore her ACL. While in surgery to repair the torn ligament, her heart started to have problems and they had to abort the surgery. In 2006 she had a collapsing spell and was referred to the UofM to see the cardiologist. She has an enlarged heart and a grade 3 AV block. On November 13, 2006 she celebrated her 13th Golden Birthday even though the odds were against her to survive. She is doing very well with medications given her current medical issues. We try to keep her as stress free as possible and she has very limited physical activities. She is an inspiration of will and determination. We are blessed. All the vets at the Uof M thought she was a wonderful reflection of the Chow breed. Tara passed away this morning(7/22/07) in the company of her family. We are going to miss her dearly.
First of all, thank you all for the wonderful birthday wishes. I would have responded earlier but I had finally found a wonderful little Chow that needed a home and had to send her to my family. Mom "found" her (with my help of course) right at my birthday time and when she saw it was another little black female she just had to find out more information on her. She contacted the shelter and they said she was a very sweet gal. Mom asked if she could bring Mia because she wanted her opinion on the whole situation. Mia and Mei Li got along fine. They acknowledged each other and that was that. Mei Li was called "Luna" at the shelter but since she was an owner turn in, mom wanted to change the name. Mei Li means beautiful in Chinese so that was perfect.
Thank you all again for helping me celebrate what would have been my 20th birthday.
It has been 6 years since that tearful day we said our goodbyes and you are missed today as much as you were then. I always love to look at your beautiful Royal Red Maple and watch it bud each spring. It is my living reminder of you and your fighting spirit. It had a few rough years but in the end it finally pulled through. I am quite sure you had something to do with it. I wasn't sure I could ever want another Chow, I thought it would be too hard but lately it is all I think of. I'm not ready now but soon I hope you will be with me on my journey to bring another into my life.
I miss you baby girl. I love the way you loved me and the way you picked me to devote your life to. Thank you for all you gave me.
Only The Best
A heart of gold stopped beating,
two shining eyes at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove,
He only takes the best.
God knows you had to leave us,
but you did not go alone,
for part of us went with you,
the day He took you home.
To some you are forgotten,
to others just part of the past,
but to us who loved and lost you,
the memory will always last.
On the 22nd, it will be 6 years since I passed away and mom has been thinking about me a lot lately. I have heard her talking about considering a new little Chow girl in the future. I really hope she does, she needs a little fun and a puppy would provide just that. Once she finds a house she wants to find a reputable breeder and hopefully get the ball rolling.
Love and purple kisses,
Angel Tara (sending mom subliminal messages to bring a Chow back in her life)
