DOGS UNLEASHED - DECEMBER DOG OF THE MONTH

November 19th 2007 7:37 pm

Though I am new to this group, I am not new to Dogster. I have been here almost a year. I deserve to be dog of the month for many reasons; I am cute, I am the happiest dog alive, I am very popular on Dogster, I have the best mom in the world and I have lots and lots of friends. I am active in lots of groups and administrator of a few. I am a very good doggie. I never chew anything that I am not supposed to. I am well trained. And last May I walked with my mom in the Multiple Sclerosis Walk and Pooch Parade. We were one of the top fund raisers. I wore a t-shirt that said "cure my mommies MS". This month would be ideal for me to win because on December 31 I will be on Dogster for one year!

Tag...you're it!

I’ve' been tagged by my pawsome pal, Daisy Lola and want to play along.

Then you pick 7 furs (kitties or doggies) to tag but make sure you tell them... a simple p-mail will do fine, or a rosette to tell them, but you must let them know that they have been tagged. Post their names also in your DIARY.

MY FIRST EVER VACATION!

August 7th 2007 11:14 pm

I just returned from my first vacation. I went to Mystic Connecticut with my mom and grandma. We left on Sunday August 5 and returned late today, Tuesday, August 7. I had such a wonderful time. There were all kinds of interesting things to sniff and explore. When we went to Mystic Seaport there was a small beach I wasn't crazy about the sand. It felt funny on my feet, it was all squishy. A lot of the stores had water bowls set up by the door so I could have a drink and many of the shopkeepers gave me yummy treats. I met so many nice people that with my mom's permission petted me and played with me. I think every kid in Mystic petted me. The kids were so cute, they seemed more interested in me than the historical displays at Mystic Seaport.
I got to stay in my first ever motel room. There were two double beds and I found that if I got enough momentum I could jump from bed to bed without touching the floor! That was so cool! I did one bad thing though. My grandma left her hearing aid on the bed and walked away. I found it and it looked like a yummy treat. I bit into it and it started whistling. I didn't like that and barked at it. Then mommy took it away from me. She told me "no" but neither her or grandma yelled at me. Grandma admitted she was wrong for leaving it where I could get it. I love my grandma. She is not a real dog-person like my mommy but she was very tolerant of me and didn't even get mad when I walked across her while she was lying on the bed. She wouldn't let me lick her feet though.
Most of the stores let me go inside either on the leash or with mommy holding me. I even got to go to an outside restaurant with mommy and grandma. The waitress lady brought me a big pan of water with ice it was so good. I was on my best behavior while they ate their dinner, they were having fish which isn't my favorite. Mommy gave me some french fries - I liked them!
It was a long drive from our home in Long Island to Connecticut. Mommy gave me bathroom breaks and I slept the whole way. I have a booster seat which attaches to the car seat and to my collar but allows me enough movement to lie down. I just curled up like a good girl and slept. Mommy and grandma joked that they didn't even know there was a dog in the car. I was glad to get home and see all the familiar things that I am use to. As soon as I walked in the door I started teasing my cat sister, Friday. She had 3 days of peace and I had a lot of teasing to catch up on. Funny she didn't act like she was glad to see me.
I can't wait to go on vacation again. Mommy posted some pictures of me and of Mystic Seaport in my Dogster Plus pages. Check them out. Mommy didn't have Internet access while we were away and when she returned she had 1,000 e-mails mostly from Dogster. There would have been a lot more but that is the maximum her AOL account allows. Mommy has been trying to catch up with our groups and has some pawmail to answer but she wanted to post this for me so our Dogster pals would know what a pawsome time we had.

MY HOMETOWN CONTEST

I definitely have the best hometown. Merrick is a hamlet (and census-designated place) in Nassau County, New York, USA. As of the 2000 census, the population was 22,764. The number of residents with a bachelors degree is twice the state average, and per capita income is also double the state average.

The name Merrick is taken from "Meroke", the name (meaning peaceful) of the Iroquois tribe formerly indigenous to the area. It is a very peaceful place to live. Merrick is a very quiet place. There aren't a lot of planes or trucks making noise. It is located near the sea, on the South Shore of Long Island, it is one of the older communities on the Island. Merrick is also one of the most desirable and affordable South Shore communities. Mommy rents an apartment in a house and has use of the yard.

Merrick Road, Sunrise Highway and Merrick Avenue provide every conceivable specialty as well as access to the resources of the entire region. Off these main streets are small tree-lined streets with many beautiful homes. There are a lot of families that live in Merrick. I love playing with the children and the other pups I meet along my walks. Many of the store owners let mommy carry me into the store and some like Dunkin' Donuts even give me a treat once in a while. I love where we live because there is not a lot of traffic and I have a big back yard to play in. All the streets along my walk have plenty of grass where a curb should be; lots to sniff and roll in. There are very few sidewalks, just lots of grass. People's lawns run right down to the asphalt street. I have a hard time knowing where the "public" area ends and the "private" area of people's property begins, mommy tells me though. Hey it is all grass to me! Sometimes when we go for a walk in the evening we see a rabbit or a racoon but mommy won't let me chase them. Sometimes mommy's are no fun. I hope we never move from Merrick. I have a nice house and yard and a lot of friends.

I'VE BEEN LOVE TAGGED

Wow, I'm very lucky, and feel so special, the beautiful and sweet Junebug has "love tagged" me.

RULES OF THE GAME: It’s a new Dogster tag game – “You are Loved”!You pick three Dogsters that you think are fantastic and tell a little about why! Don’t forget to let them know how much they are loved with a p-mail or a rosette!

First, I choose Bailey. Bailey and his mom are my special pals. We live near each other on Long Island New York. Bailey is a cute little Peekingnese and Bichon Frise. He was recently selected as Prince Charming of the Week in the PDPC group. Our moms are going to arrange a play date for us this summer.

Next I choose Misty. She is another special pal. She is an Administrator of several groups and does lots of kind things for pups. She recently had problems getting Dogster posts and I was scared that she would leave Dogster. I was so glad when things worked out and she decided to stay.

Last but definitely not least I chose Jack Goodman-Carmen. He is a beautiful Bichon Frise. He is such a kind and loving pup. Recently while on a walk with his dad, Jack was attacked by a bigger dog that was not properly managed by his owner. Jack's dad was injured also. Everyone has been praying that Jack makes a full recovery from his wounds and has no lasting psychological effects because of the attack. I woof you Jack! Your in our prayers.

I'm very lucky, and feel so special, the adorable Emma has Birthday "love tagged" me.

RULES OF THE GAME: It’s a new Dogster tag game – “You are Loved”!You pick three Dogsters that you think are fantastic and tell a little about why! Don’t forget to let them know how much they are loved with a p-mail or a rosette!

I chose Brandy. Brandy and her dad are good friends of mine and my mom. Brandy loves treats and expects a reward for everything! Boy I wish my mom gave me a treat for everything. One of the sweetest pups on Dogster and a pawsome dad.

Next I chose Duffy Mc Duff. Another good friend of mine and mom. His mom makes the best pictures. Duffy is active in a lot of Dogster groups. He is a very kind and compassionate pup.

And I chose Nicolas. A cute little Dachsaund that also has a pawsome mom. He and his mom are so kind and thoughtful. Nicolas packs a lot of love into a little package.

Have fun 'Love Tagging'...I only wish I had enough rosettes for each & every pup!
Love yas all,
Esperanza

MY FIRST BIRTHDAY!

July 21st 2007 10:32 pm

July 21 was my 1st birthday. Mommy had a big party for me! There were over 20 people there and 3 little kids. The kids and I played all day. I got lots of nice toys and new clothes. I even got some chewies. Mommy bought me a brand new "big girl" collar and leash, it is all silvery and sparkly. Mommy let me have a real hamburger. After everyone sang "Happy Birthday" to me mommy gave me a small piece of my cake though she took off all the gooey icing. I really wanted that too but Mommy said that chocolate is not good for dogs. I was a good doggie all day but then when company was leaving I didn't want them to leave. As they exited the yard I ran past them the first chance I got. I took off running from yard to yard and wouldn't listen to my Mommy. Mommy can't run because she has multiple sclerosis. She finally caught up to me 4 houses away. She squatted down in the neighbors driveway and used her "stern" voice to call me. I knew I was in trouble and went right to her. Mommy gave me a stern talking to but I didn't get put in my pen for a time out. Mommy said it was my birthday and no time outs on my birthday. Wooo escaped that one. Mommy made me stay in the yard after that, I didn't even try to leave I didn't want to get into trouble. After everyone left Mommy gave me one of my new chewies but I was too tired. I curled up on the bed next to Mommy and took a nap. Turning 1 year old is a hard job! I wonder if I can have another birthday tomorrow? What do you think?
Thanks to all the pups that sent pressies and birthday wishes. It means so much to be loved by so many pups.

WE DID IT!

Esperanza and I participated in the MS Walk & Pooch Parade today. It was held in Belmont Park in Long Island New York. The walk was a mile and a half in length and we were able to complete the entire walk. It is the first time I have actually walked in the walk. In previous years I participated in the walk in a motorized scooter because the multiple sclerosis made my legs too weak to walk. This year with the help of an excellent physical therapist, medication and Esperanza taking me for several walks a day I was able to walk.
There were hundreds of people participating in the walk and many brought a dog or two. Esperanza had the time of her life greeting all the pups and their owners. When it came time to leave she played with pups all the way to the van, she didn't want to go. But when I opened the door to the van she sat down patiently and waited for me to pick her up and put her inside. She was on her best behavior all day.
Esperanza caused quite a stir among photographers who loved her T-shirt which read, "Cure My Mommies MS". She must have had her picture taken a dozen times. She is quite a ham!
Our goal was to raise $1,000 thanks to the generosity of Dogster members, my physical therapist, friends, family and members of my Synagogue I raised almost $1,300! This generosity will go towards bringing researchers one step closer to finding a cure.
Tonight we are both resting, tired from our long walk and all the socializing we did. Tomorrow is another day and I am sure that Esperanza will be back to her friskey self once again.
In the earlier diary entry I asked people to sponsor me for the MS Walk & Pooch Parade and many of you responded positively. If you are still interested in sponsoring me you can do so until June 8.
Right now I am going to say some extra prayers of Thanks that the MS is in remission and Thank God for allowing me to participate fully in the walk.

MY PERSONAL TRAINER AND THE MS WALK

March 17th 2007 12:51 pm

Every hour of every day, someone is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). I am diagnosed with MS. That's why I registered for the MS Walk and that's why I'm asking people to support my fund raising efforts with a tax-deductible donation.
I call Esperanza my personal trainer. Thanks to her I do a lot more walking than I normally would. She walks me around the block several times a day and I am sure as the weather gets nicer she will be taking me for even more and longer walks. We also play, play, play which is also good exercise for me she doesn't let me slack off.
This year I will be walking at least part of the MS walk. Last year I completed the entire week in my motorized scooter. Thanks to medication and intensive physical therapy I am in remission and able to walk unaided. I will be participating in Belmont Park here in NY so that I can take part in the Pooch Parade. This way my Personal Trainer, Esperanza can walk with with me. Fortunately I am able to walk. More money is needed for research so more medications can be found to help MS Patients and hopefully some day a cure will be found. Won't you please help?
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is dedicated to ending the devastating effects of MS but they can't do it without our help. It's faster and easier than ever to support this cause that's so important to me. You can send your contribution to me at: Peggy Meerkatz 100 Lindenmere Drive Merrick NY 11566 or send me your e-mail address and I can connect you to my personal page where you can make a tax deductible credit card deduction.
Any amount, great or small, helps to make a difference in the lives of people with MS. I appreciate your support and look forward to letting you know how I do.
The date of the walk is May 6, 2007. Thank you for your support. I know that I can meet the $1,000 goal set last year if not surpass it with your help.
P.S. If you would like more information about the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, how proceeds from the MS Walk are used, or the other ways you can get involved in the fight against MS, please visit nationalmssociety.org.
