Christmas time is full of heart tugging stories; I have been witness to several while working as a volunteer at my local animal shelter.

I learned of a kitten who was making its way to his new home, moving from Alaska to Maryland. When the family stopped for gas in a suburb of Omaha, the kitten got out of the car. The family looked for awhile, but had to keep moving. I don’t remember if it were days or weeks later, but the kitten showed up at the shelter, well fed and very well cared for. The assessment team checked for a microchip and lo and behold, there was information in the system. The alternate contact was reached in Arizona who put the shelter in touch with the family’s new contact information in Maryland. The kitten flew on a plane within days and was reunited with her family – and was home for the holidays.

Another story I was told was about a dog. A trusted companion of a man in California one day went missing. The man was heartbroken and looked and looked for his dog. Days turned to weeks, weeks to months and months to years. He believed that his dog was stolen, but couldn’t be sure. He thought of his friend often and wondered if he was alive, if he was warm and loved and happy. Half way across the country a German Sheppard found its way to our shelter. He was scanned for a microchip and the owner was called. Imagine the man’s surprise when after 3 long years is dog was found all the way in Nebraska. The man caught the first flight he could find to reunite himself with his dog, he rented a car and they both drove home.

These stories make me happy, they make me cry tears of joy and fill my heart with hope.

These stories make me ask, where is Blue? These stories give me hope that Blue may someday be found. It may be miles away; it may be years from now. My prayer is that Blue will one day find his way back home. www.WhereIsBlue.com.

I really don't know what all the fuss is about, but lately I've been getting a lot of "good girl" rewards and praise.

Nothing has really changed except I've decided to stop trying to eat the new dog Taysia. It's just not worth the hassle. Badger will let me play all I want with her and Taysia isn't such a bad dog after all.

I know everyone is worried about me being mean to Taysia so I wanted to reassure everyone that I've decided to be nice to her. She can still be a little grumpy sometimes, but she doesn't always feel really great and she just runs out of gas faster than Badger & me. Mom is happy with me again!!!

I'm not going to tell you that I like Taysia yet, but I promised mom that I'd try not to bite her anymore. We're actually able to be in the same room together and not really care so mom thinks that's progress. She's kind of a daddy's girl so if that's the case and as long as I don't have to share my mom then I think it will be okay!

I got loose in Indian Peaks Wilderness!!!

Woo Hoo!!!!! I love Colorado and I love the show!!! Mom and Dad took me and Badger to the mountains for some hiking in the snow! Today we went to an area near Peaceful Valley. It was really quiet - no tracks in the snow for what appeared days. We were having so much fun!!!

Badger and I were playing and got our lines tangled up a bit and woo hoo!!!!! I was FREE!!!!!!!! on my own to run through the Indian Peaks Wilderness! I ran hard through the snow... I heard Dad - he was calling my name - probably so proud of how I looked running free in the snow and through the forest. I ran and ran and ran and then something seemed really wrong...

Mom, Dad and Badger weren't following me. That just didn't seem right. I stopped and looked back at them. Dad was a mess - all tangled up with Badger. He looked like he wanted to run with me, but there was NO WAY that he could ever run as fast as me.

Mom stayed back. She dropped her backpack - what's up with that, mom? why don't you want to come with me... what are you doing... you're walking the other way... Oh... I see what you're doing... you're taking a TREAT break... not cheering me on, but calling 'Treats!!'. You got out the wonderful peanut butter Zukes treats and I had to come get one.

I ran back, past Dad and Badger at full steam ahead, strainght to my mom! She gave me 2 treats and grabbed my harness and buried her face in my neck and cried... Sheesh mom... if you wanted a treat you could have just taken one.

'Blue' Letter to the editor from Jambalaya's mom

The good news is that this will be published in another Michigan newspaper in a week or two... I just wanted to share it with all of you. Please cross post and help keep Blue top of mind... I don't want anyone to forget to keep vigilant.

Dear Friends,

765, 766, 767…. Posters, stamps, letters, envelopes… and on and on.

My name is Jackie, I’m from Omaha, Nebraska and I’m trying to help find a dog that is missing in Michigan. I don’t know the owner personally; I’ve never met the dog. I’ve spent more money than I want to admit in my effort and have solicited donations of time, work, research and stamps from dozens of others from places like North Carolina, Pennsylvania, California, Minnesota, Maryland, Kansas. All from people I’ve never met and who don’t know the missing dog either.

I shake my head and wonder if I’ve lost my mind. Why would I do this? Why would I pour myself in to this? Why would others? And I guess the only answer I have is “why not?” I can’t make a difference in the lives of many, but maybe I can for this ONE.

I don’t know why Blue – the missing dog touched my heart so much, but it doesn’t really matter. He’s on my mind now and that’s what counts. He’s missing. He’s been sighted. He’s alive… but with the onset of winter, he’s getting hungry, he’s getting cold.

I worry… would someone mistake him for a wolf thinking him a predator? Would someone harm him? If he were hungry and found a farm with chickens, would someone shoot first without knowing how hungry and scared and lost he is?

I worry… did someone hit him, is someone feeding him, does someone know someone now has him?

Blue’s owner would like closure… she would of course want him home, safe and sound. But if he’s met his end, she would like to know so she can properly say, ‘good bye’.

I’m encouraged… I’ve heard stories after stories of dogs reunited with owners hundreds of miles and in some cases years from the time and place they went missing.

I’m encouraged because I believe he’s still alive and I believe in the best in people. I believe that you will go to Blue’s website, I believe that you will look at his picture and I believe that you will pass this along to your friends and family until we find the someone that I believe is out there who knows something, who has seen this beautiful dog named Blue.

Help me find Blue and bring him home.

Wolf is spoken here, Care Again raises wolves & spirits"

Care Again is a non profit organization which raises wolves, performs wolf studies and in the past has offered outreach programs.

Zoning changes made it mandatory to relocate the wolves and time is running out due to lack of funding and helping hands. The wolves were moved to a pristine nature preserve backing into a national forest in Colorado. Presently volunteers are urgently needed to help finish building the fence to ensure the safety of the wolf pack. The materials are there with a single set of human hands trying to manage it alone, due to the weather and other duties like feeding and tending to the wolves, it has been nearly impossible to accomplish this important task.

People interested in volunteering near Woodland Park CO. may contact J. Harris at:719-748-3780
Please have the patience to leave your name and number to be reached TWICE as the answering machine is less than state of the art and the wolf guardian is often away tending to the wolves.
You may also contact Sasha at LenaMalikhusky@gmail.com with any further questions.

Donations of any amount towards this 501 non profit organization are welcomed and greatly appreciated.

Digging to China

I don’t know why dad gets so wound up. I’m a working dog and I was simply trying to help! I don’t think that putting my paws in the sink and getting me all soapy and wet accomplishes anything. Where’s mom when you need to use a little husky manipulation?

Here’s the deal! I heard Mom talking about my step hu-sister, Cayden. Mom was really proud of her for working hard in her job and getting the opportunity to go on a buying / product development trip to China. Mom got her the job so she was just beaming with pride, but upset too. I take special note when my mommy’s upset about anything! Mom was saying that the company doesn’t fly its employees in business class for international flights and how she would refuse to go if she had to fly 18 hours in coach, blah, blah, blah…

...so I knew that I could help!!! It was time for SUPER HUSKY!!! I could fix the problem! I could make it so Cayden didn’t have to fly at all. She could just come over to my house!!!

I started to dig and dig and dig and dig…. I know I was getting close to ChinaI was sooooooo close. I had to be close because the hole was deeper than I was tall. It wasn’t too hard either; the soil was nice and soft because it had rained recently. I used my front legs and then my back and then my front legs again and again.

Dad made me stop, he even said a bad word or two, something like, “Jambalaya, what in the (bleep) are you trying to do?”

BOL… Dad told mom and all she could do was laugh! Mom thought I was cute and wondered where the pictures were. Maybe at least now they will give me back my pinecones!!!
