Minky is an elderly dog we adopted from the Maxfund no-kill shelter in Denver. Maxfund spent a huge amount of money treating her for pneumonia, and she nearly died 5 times. She's lost most of her teeth, but is proud of the one she still has! She has been variously described as looking like a baby raccoon, a teddy bear, or an Ewok.

Farewell, everyone!

On January 17, 2009, around 3 a.m., I decided to make my journey to the Rainbow Bridge. Mom and Dad had taken me to Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital because I didn't seem to be doing well at all.

This morning, Dad glimpsed me in the distance while he was walking Benny and Moey. I was running like a young puppy again, towards my next destination. I know I'm leaving a good place, but the next place will be even better! So farewell, everyone, until we meet in the next place!

I guess "pneumonia-versary" is right!!

I can't believe it's been a year since I last wrote in my diary! And isn't it strange that, a year later, I'm writing about pneumonia again?! I guess this time, mom and dad caught it early, so I technically have "pre-pneumonia." But either way, I'm not happy about it! Vet visits, medicine, and a humidifier seem to have brought it under control, though, so I expect to have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Let's see, what else has happened? Several foster dogs have come and gone. And one has stayed! That little nuisance, Tippy, has managed to worm his way into everyone's heart except mine. Me, I'd be happy to bite him senseless, if only I had teeth! GRRRrrRR!!

Other than that, my life continues to be a luxurious one, with mom and dad constantly plying me with food and treats (I'm a supermodel, so I tend to be a bit anorexic sometimes), the occasional walk, a lap to sit in whenever I demand one, lots of new outfits, and, of course, my beauty rest!

All things considered, this dog's life is a very good one indeed!

My pneumonia-versary

This past week, I haven't been my usual self. I've been sleeping a lot more, my appetite's been off, my sparkly eyes have become a little cloudy, and I've had a hacking cough. Come to find out, I've gotten pneumonia again -- and it's been barely a year since my last bout!!

My mom had been concerned that I'd kind of slid backwards, health-wise, to the way I'd been when I first joined my family a year ago. That was after I'd nearly died 5 times from a terrible case of pneumonia. We were all surprised to find out it was deja vu all over again! (Have you ever had vu ja de? That's the feeling that you've never been through something before. Haha!)

Thank goodness it was caught early this time! I've been terrible about taking my meds, though, so today, it was back to the vet again for injections. My dad's adept with a needle for his diabetes, so from now on he'll be giving me two shots a day. I prefer a little needle-stick to those icky-tasting drugs - I can detect the tiniest molecule of them in my food!
