Quick Bio:

December 12th 2003

i am a big fan of sleeping under the covers. if it's cold in the morning, i am the last one out of bed and the first one to sit forlornly at the gas fireplace, waiting for a human to take pity on my sorry state. also, i like to run like the wind!

i would have to agree that rain is one of my least favorite things. also, i am not terribly fond of little yippy dogs that get right in my muzzle. and, if we're on a walk & some one has the nerve to not stop & pet me, that's bad. hello! i'm a basenji!

Favorite Toy:
if i can tear the stuffed guts out of a toy, that's excellent. i have a bunny with floppy legs and i shake that poor critter 'til i break it's neck, which i've done about 3000 times! if a toy is fluffy & squeaks, that's an added bonus.

Favorite Food:
shredded cheese is definitely my favorite food, though i live with a bunch of vegetarians, so i can only guess how delicious a fresh hunk of beef would taste.

Favorite Walk:
you know, i am pretty happy to walk just about anywhere as long as the surface is dry. however, if there is a pipe or hose crossing a sidewalk, that freaks me out! good grief! what are those things?

Best Tricks:
as with the typical regal basenji, it is not in our nature to intentionally provide entertainment for our humans. that being said, i can sit & wait for a treat, even leaving it on the floor until i am given the okay signal.

Arrival Story:
When our daughter was six, she became enamored with Tintin's adorable white dog Snowy, and pressed us for one of her own. Sadly, the guys in the family have allergies, so that limited our canine selection. That's when we learned about basenjis, a breed we didn't even know existed. Once we met our first basenjis, we were captivated by their charm.

Rou has been spayed, so she is not a show dog, though of course, we're convinced she could have been a Grand Champion long ago. Together, my daughter & I wrote an illustrated children's book about Rou, so she has her own website and receives letters from children around the country. Rou always writes back, preferring the pen to the computer.

The Rules
(Hint: Copy and paste the rules so you don't have to type them again):

Each player starts with seven random facts about themselves. Dogs who are tagged, need to post in their diary the rules and their 7 pawsome facts. Then choose 7 dogs to tag and list their names. Don’t forget to bark them a pmail that they have been tagged and to read your diary, or, send them a fun Rosette announcing they've been Tagged!

-----------------------------My 7 Pawsome Facts-----------------------------
1. i get to lick out the cookie dough bowl.
2. i wait respectfully before getting my dinner or treats.
3. i would much rather pee in Alpha's flower beds than anywhere else.
4. i baroo whenever I see my family.
5. at school, I let the children rub my ears, pick up my feet & uncurl my tail.
6. i have a book about all the wonderful things basenjis do to entertain their humans. My Sophie girl illustrated all the pages.
7. during the day, I sleep on top of an upholstered chair, of course.

I am tagging-

i think all my other pals have been tagged!

i got to meet my newest batch of neices and nephews yesterday. they are just two weeks old and not so much fun yet. they can barely even open their eyes. they wiggle around and flop on their backs and all over each other. my sister, faith, has been an excellent mom. there are four girls and three boys and all are red & white. my favorite little human is smitten by the sheer cuteness of the basenji pup. of course, there are benefits to being older & wiser like me. for instance, i don't poop and pee on her like some creatures i know. ha! here's to being three years old!

this morning, i was in my typical spot underneath the covers. it was lovely and dark and warm and no one seemed to have to get anywhere in a hurry. i crawled out from my den and was welcomed to the day. Alpha rubbed my belly & i was in heaven. however, in no time, the tall guy asked for some attention too. it's nothing new; i'm not the only pack member that needs love & affection, but i had to try and win Alpha back. that's when i crawled right smack up on the pillows and started pawing and nibbling at the tall guy. that led to wrestling and i tried valiantly to show my superior strength, but alas, i was tackled and had to concede. in the end, my favorite little human joined in the party and i was the center of attention once again :)
