OMD! I learned to swim last summer at PetSafe Park and now that is my absolute favorite place to go! They have a pond there and tons of tennis balls just laying around waiting for Mom to throw into the water so I can swim out and fetch them! It's dogsome!

Best Tricks:
All my tricks are the best. I know voice commands AND hand signals for sit, down, stay, release, speak, speak louder, left (paw), right (paw), play dead, roll over, stand up (on hind legs) and spin!

Arrival Story:
Pretty standard really. My new mommy and daddy had originally planned on getting a puppy from one of mommy's co-workers. But just a few days before they were to go get one, the momma dog escaped from the fence and took the babies with her. They haven't been seen since. Heartbroken about the loss of the puppy they never got to love, mommy and daddy turned to searching websites and newspapers. They called about one dog, but lucky for me the owner wasn't home. So they called my breeder. Later that evening they came to see me and my brothers and sisters. I was the girl with one ear sticking up. I kept trying to get to the fence to meet the new people, but those pesky brothers kept getting in the way. One of my brothers was mocking me and also had an ear stuck up, but they said they wanted a girl. Alright! Just me and my little sister to pick from. Daddy held me for a long time while mommy was holding my sister. My sister was really sucking up to Mommy, seems she gets to be the one to make the decision. Mommy kept asking Daddy what he thought. He said it was up to her. My heart sank when Daddy handed me back to the guy and they put me back in the fence. How could she make a decision like that!? She never even held me! They passed her back and forth a couple times and started to walk away with her. I stood with my paws on the fence trying desperately to get their attention. Remember me!? I was the one who kept trying to lick you through the fence! C'mon! You gotta look at me again! I can suck up to you too! Then Daddy said something about how the other girl (me) seemed bigger and had more black on her face, they both agreed they liked the darker color of me. Mommy asked if she could see me... then Mommy said that she was pretty sure I was the one trying to lick her through the fence! Yes! It was me! So the guy got me back out and handed me over to Mommy. OK.. Time to pour on the charm, lick the face, nuzzle a little and now lay my head down on her arm. "See how relaxed I am? Ain't I just the best thing? " Shameless, perhaps, but it worked. And now I'm happy in my new home. Daddy drives a truck and I don't get to see him much, but he calls every day to check on me and Mommy (and that cat Ralphie). Mommy works too, but she spends all her time at home with me. We go on walks, watch TV together, look at dog web sites together, go geocaching, take rides in the car... I can tell she loves me, and I love her too. I'm so glad they decided to take another look. I still wonder what happened to my brothers and sisters and can only hope they got as great of a home and I got!

Bio:
My name is Sasha and I am a full-blooded and AKC registered German Shepherd Dog. My grand-daddy was a police dog. My Daddy is said to be really smart. He opens doors and rings the doorbell to come back inside when they let him out. My Mommy is a very sweet GSD and she approved of my human mommy and daddy by licking them when they asked if they could take me home with them. Of course, after trying to raise 12 kids, you'd welcome all the help you could get! LOL My first trip to the vet I weighed 14lbs 7 ounces. The next trip (3 weeks later) I weighed in at 20 lbs 4 ounces. 5 months old, when I got my microchips I weighed 34.9 pounds. 8 months old I hit the 50 pound mark. I've leveled out on my weight now at around 65 pounds. Most people say I look small, but they keep forgetting I'm a girl and girl GSDs are smaller than boys.

A Tale of Two Ears - A Shepherd's Story

We Love Comfortis! It makes my butt fuzzy!

My parents and I always dreaded the warm days of summer. It seemed every year, I would lose my hair because of a horrible flea allergy and the fact that the bugs were so hard to control.
Mommy and Daddy felt horrible seeing me suffer despite many different flea treatments and I felt.. well, itchy! Not to mention the embarrasment of having no hair on my rear end!
This year looks to be better though. Mid February we got some warm weather and as usual, I started getting a bald spot near my tail. Mommy was talking to the vet and asked if there was something more powerful she could use that wouldn't harm me. We'd tried Frontline, Nature's Guardian, Sevin dust, flea collars and another topical remedy sold by PetSmart (mom can' t remember the name).
The vet gave her a big brown crunchy tablet she called a "Comfortis". I chewed it up when we got home (tasted OK but not the best treat ever).
Within a few weeks my bald spot was filling back in, instead of getting bigger! I wasn't itching either! It's now May and we've had ALOT of very hot days already. Mommy calls me "fuzzy butt" cause I have more hair now than she's ever seen on me at one time. My tail is thicker, my hind legs are covered in lush golden fur... I'm lookin' GOOOOOD!
Mommy says this stuff is even cheaper per dose than Frontline and she loves it because it doesn't wash off, she can still pet me right after she gives it to me and it's not a nasty chemical that my cat brother will get on him and make him sick like some of the flea stuff. Even if it was more expensive, she'd still use it. After that first month's dose, she went back to the vet and bought 6 more!

Wow.. it's hard to believe it's been a whole year since my last birthday. I'm two years old now, so why does everybody keep calling me a puppy? Anytime we see people in public they ask if I'm a puppy still. No, I'm just a petite young lady with a very active and athletic lifestyle. I love playing with tennis balls and swimming!

Yeah, swimming is awesome! I learned how at the PetSafe dog park. Mommy and Daddy kept throwing tennis balls in the water and I just couldn't leave them there to drown! The first ones they threw were easy to get, then they started throwing them farther and farther until once.. I couldn't reach it. The water was up to my neck and I tried, but I just couldn't get it to come to me. Then something happened.. and my foot slipped. My head went underwater, then popped right back up as I started kicking my feet. I saw my shot, grabbed the ball, turned and kept kicking. Before I knew it, I was back on shore and Mommy and Daddy were jumping up and down saying stuff like "GOOD JOB SASHA!", "That's a BIG GIRL!" and "I KNEW you could do it!" Apparently what I did was called swimming... and you know what. The next time I tried it, it was actually fun! I kept begging them to keep throwing the ball into the water so I could swim and get it.

I got to celebrate my birthday on the Saturday after it cause Mommy and Daddy both had to work that day. Saturday, Mom and Dad took me to the lake and I swam and swam. It was great. I fell asleep on the way home a tired, soggy and happy puppy with my head on Mommy's lap.
