Thank you for your pup mails, rosettes, pal requests, dedications, tributes, cards, pictures, poems and the Run Chloe Run photo stroll in memory of our precious Chloe the princess pug who passed away on August 17th. They are heartfelt and greatly appreciated.
We had Chloe cremated and had a private memorial service for her on August 31st. We miss Chloe terribly, but at least we have her here in spirit.
Once again, thank you for your support.
xoxo

What started out as a great day of taking Chloe to visit her foster mother and the dogs in her rescue as well as a stop at our vet's office to pick up more antibiotics, has ended in tragedy. We were within a mile of being home when Chloe collasped in her crate. I stopped the car to see what happened and when I touched her skin she felt extremely hot despite having the air conditioner on in the car. She was still breathing so I rushed her home and put her in a tub of cool water for a few minutes. We live about 15 miles from our regular vet and when she didn't come around I rushed her to a vet about a mile down the road from our house. As soon as I got her inside the vet's office, she started to have seizures. The vet measured her temperature at 106 degrees. They applied cold packs, put her on IV fluids and oxgyen. They were able to get her temperature down to 102 degrees, but despite numerous doses of Valium and other medications, the grand mal seizures that were effecting her whole body continued. After working on Chloe for about two hours and no let up in the grand mal seizures, it was the opinion of the vet that Chloe had significant brain damage from heat stroke. It was at that time that I decided to have her humanely euthanized.
Our hearts are shattered in a million pieces and at this point in time, I am not able to comprehend any of this. Why did this happen to my precious baby girl?? I always take water with us when we go somewhere and she had water at the foster mother's house after playing outside with rescue dogs for a few minutes. I had the air condition in the car and had taken her inside to the vet's office when we picked up her antiobiotics so she wouldn't get over heated and then gave her water when we came out. I don't understand any of this. The vet that saw Chloe here in Fairmount said that she did not suffer. The only explanation that the vet could give me was that perhaps there was not enough cool air flow into the back seat of the car.
I feel like screaming because I don't understand any of this. This surely has to be a bad dream.
We will be gone from Dogster for a while, but we wanted to say thanks to everyone who loved our little Chloe the princess pug you have been great pals.
Thanks to Dr. Brewer from the Fairmount Veterinary Clinic for seeing Chloe on an emergent basis.

Today mommy took me bye bye. Just me and mommy!! First we went to visit Kathy (my former foster mother) and the kids at Rock Rescue. Kathy was very happy to see me. I met three pug kids, Muffin, Otis and Bradford. The boys, Otis and Bradford were very nice and acted like gentlemen. That girl, Muffin, she sure did have an attitude. She barked at me like she owned the place. Of course, once mommy put me in my cart, Muffin and I were on an even playing ground and then she quit barking. We went outside and walked around the back yard for a few minutes and then visited with a neighbor who knew me from 2004. Mommy and Kathy took a few pictures of us pug kids playing and then we went back in. A couple other rescue kids that I met were Krissi the little shih tzu who had been hit by a car and a little poodle, I think his name was Pepe. There were 15 dogs at Kathy's house, so I may be confused about the little poodle's name.
Mommy and Kathy talked about the upcoming Marion-Grant County Humane Society Annual Dog Walk scheduled for Saturday, October 7th. Mommy had taken me to the "dog walk" last year and it was soooo much fun. We are looking forward to going this year also.
At 2:45 p.m. we said goodby to Kathy and headed to our vet's office to check on the status of my urine sample that poppy had taken for analysis this morning. I had just finished two weeks of antibiotics (of a six month course). Mommy and I talked with Dr. Lewis who said my urine was clear, but had a lot of crystals. After talking with Dr. Lewis, a very nice lady who had her dog in for a visit, was fussing over me and talking and giggling about me being a snorty girl. hehehe. I also visited with Joni the office manager and my favorite tech, Lela. Everyone at the vet's office loves me and I love them. As mommy was paying the bill, I pooped on the floor. Oops, sorry about that!! We left the vet's office at about 3:10 p.m.
It was a very good day today. I visited with the people who love me and care for me. I was ready to go home and see my poppy, Pugsley and Buster. I miss them. Who would have known that 20 minutes later. . . .
