Arrival Story:
"Precious" had been turned into a Tangipahoa Parish animal control shelter when her owners lost their home due to Hurricane Katrina. Her front left leg had been fractured when the car backed into her in the rush to leave the area. She was 9 mos. old, and was scheduled to be euthanized on the day she was rescued from A.R.F. volunteers. Her skin and hair were funky from the situation, but thankfully she was heartworm-negative and didn't have distemper or anything else that a lot of those pets did from that region. She was adopted in WA after being rescued from the Louisiana shelter and named "Cloie" . She was with her family for 7 mos. but was returned when the woman became pregnant and her military husband wasn't home very much. It was claimed that she was a much different dog and that she would potty in the house, but she has NEVER done that in our house! As soon as I came into the store to pick her up to foster her, I fell in love with her! I told her that I may have to end up keeping her! I couldn't wait to take her home to meet our boys. To ease her transition, we didn't immediately put her up for adoption. We never ended up doing so, and decided to keep her permanently. Since we had a "Chloe" for almost 13 years, we decided to call this girl "Dotty" ... we thought that was a cute name for her with all of her many black spots. We're still not sure what breeds she might be mixed with ... we were thinking maybe Dalmation, maybe American Bulldog (she's got the funny underbite), maybe Jack Russell Terrier (she's got long wirey terrier-type hair from the neck down) ... who knows?! :-) She has such a funny, energetic, loving personality and we are so grateful she's in our lives. The boys all love her and enjoy chasing her around the yard. She keeps us all young and we look forward to many years with her.
