Arrival Story:
I lost my 13-year-old Doberman/Pit Bull mix quite suddenly, the Tuesday before Thanksgiving 2005. Three weeks later, on Friday, 15 Dec 2005, totally spur of the moment, I went to the Humane Society. The house just felt so empty, even with my two wonderful cats, Aldo and Tess. Noelle was the first dog I saw. She would approach me very closely but then run back into her kennel and peek around a wall to look at me. She did this a few times, so I went ahead and briefly looked at all the dogs put out for adoption. I came back to Noelle and the game began again. Well, she did this five or six more times but then she finally stayed up at the front, smelling my outstretched hand and allowing me to pet her. By this time, of course, I pretty much knew Noelle was the dog I wanted, but when she licked my hand, she sealed the deal in my heart. :))))
Bio:
[Updated 9 May 2007] Noelle's mix is not such a mystery anymore, and I have changed her secondary breed to reflect this. Because I am now unable to exercise her as much as before, she has gained weight and her body has grown to be more and more of a Lab. She still has the pit, though, for sure! The pit clearly shows in her face, usually and especially when she's happy or intrigued by something. She has very large, erect ears; her tail curls over her back ; and her tongue is patched with black. Noelle has an incredible amount of energy, matched with an incredible amount of love and joy, although she is adjusting to my reduced physical abilities. She can't stand the treadmill, though I do insist she use it. Noelle's shining qualiy remains her total joie de vivre--her supreme joy of Life. As one friend summed her up: "That Noelle. She's a real character." And the most unbelievable thing about Noelle remains the same, the one thing that never fails to make me shake my head. This dear, sweet dog, this adorable "character" who spreads so much joy and happiness and love wherever she goes, was returned to the Humane Society not once, but twice. I'm her third home. What a precious Christmas gift, indeed.
