Food! My favorite! My collar! My favorite! The car! My favorite! Treats! My favorite! Bed! My favorite!
Did you say, "stay here and be good"?? What exactly does that mean other that you hate me and are abandoning me?? *ears droop* *pout* Is it RAINING outside?? I'm not going out to potty in *that*. No way. And NOT THE BATH!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
Planet dog orbee balls & bones!! Romp & Roll ball!! Kevlar toys! Frisbees! Orbee tennis balls! Basketballs! Rope! Tire toy! *rolls around in pile of toys*
My favorite is STEAK! But my adopted sister has allergies so we get a home cooked meal. Sometimes we get kibble, Timberwolf Organics "Ocean Blue". I love bully sticks!! And carrots!!!
MY COLLAR?!?! My LEASH?!? We're going for a WALK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't care where.
*balances treat on nose* *flips it in air and catches it* We ring the bell when we want to go outside. We can also bow and do all of the basics - down, sit, stay, paw, over, leave it - I also know all of the agility commands and have done some "doga".
I was sitting at the humane society watching people walk by. Two paused and looked at me, musing on what exactly an "AmStaff" was but agreeing that I was the cutest dog in the place. *preen* They immediately filled out an adoption request for me and went home to do breed research and invest in food/toys/etc . before the final adoption. They came and played with me every day at the shelter until my.. um.. surgery was complete and I went HOME.
Mom says I "blew out my knee" so I had to have TPLO surgery in August 2005 and I don't know if I'll be going back to agility. *pout* Now I have the other leg coming up for surgery!
I live in the Seattle area and can be seen sometimes boating on Lake Washington with my doggie life vest on, hiking on various trails in the area, or socializing on-leash. We like to shop at Bark Natural Pet in Ballard and visit Bubba.
I've never met another dog I didn't like. I love all humans too, especially ones with treats!!
I live with my adopted sister, Lela, Joey (Boxer), and Howie (Pomeranian) and frequently visit my other dog pals - Phizzy (Toy Poodle) and Max (Standard Poodle).
My mom used to foster dogs for Recycle-A-Bull Rescue (fomerly Three Bulldogs - you can see their lists on PBRC and Petfinder) so I sometimes had to share most of my toys and beds. (I won't share my food cube toy, no way. That's all MINE.) I hated it when she fostered those pesky little puppies, although Lela liked them. I prefer dogs I can romp with!! (Are you reading this, mom?) Mom's "pibble" (pit bull) fosters have been two black male pups named Buddy and Boo-Boo, a blue fawn male named Chaney, a young black & white female named Melody, a brown and white male named Airis (now Odin), White with Black Spots male named Chip, and Jet, a little black male who liked to annoy me by following me around and snuggling up with me. Actually, they all did that. Why do all these puppies like ME so much?
Mom entered me in this photo contest at photowow.com and I won! My prize is shown with me in a picture to the left.
Mom runs the dogster community on Livejournal, look us up if you have a livejournal account!
I started Agility on July 5th 2004 with the Seattle Agility Center (Renton location)!!!! I really really love it and have finished 101, 102 and advanced handling. I recently competed in the summer Agilympics (May 2005) and hopefully will someday earn some titles in NADAC competition trials!! I'm not sure when I'll be able to go back since I need another surgery on my leg. Maybe someday.
Don't believe all of the "pit bull" hype - do your own research on the breed. Human aggressiveness is *very rare* in our breed and should not, for obvious reasons, be encouraged. Please help stop the stereotyping and encourage education! Breedism is the pits. Some places to start for education are BadRap.org, PBRC.net, outofthepits.org, workingpitbull.com, pitbullpress.com and forpitssake.org. Thank you!!!
Jake passed away at only 13 years old on May 31st 2014. I will miss him SO MUCH, he was a very special boy. *Everyone* loved him. So mad at the breeders for his bad genetics, he was getting so many huge lumps and tumors and I'm sure his hips and knees bothered him. Please don't support backyard breeders or bad breeders who breed dogs with bad genetics!! My other dog is 18 and going strong because she has good genetics.
Avast, me hearties! - Cap'n Jake Sparrow

Jake hasn't posted for a long time because I (this is Lela) don't let him near MY computer. Mine. Back off, Jake.
Now he's gone and broken a toe. He has this huge wrap over his whole leg with a spoon splint and is having problems dragging it around and getting settled comfortably in bed (although he can still jump on the couch?? What is this game he is playing??) He keeps getting his splint "caught" behind him so his leg is twisted at a weird angle and the humans have to be right there with him 24x7 to make sure he doesn't break his leg as well as his toe.
So once again he gets all of the attention. *glares*
I need a tooth out myself, and yet he still manages to get hurt so that the focus is all on him. *drums nails on floor*

The vet said Jake's leg was looking well, he manipulated it a bit and noted how smooth it was. Our last appointment for x-rays will be four weeks from today.

Jake made it through his TPLO and was glad to get home!!
He wasn't as zonked out this time; much more alert. He did his time on meds and being confined to bed for a week (well, he is still pretty much confined but now it's a little more lax.)
I have x-ray photos and more on my flickr page.
Saturday afternoon (March 3rd) I noticed around 9pm that his leg was looking very red underneath. Sunday was more swelling and a lot of edema so back to the hospital we went. Everything checked out ok, but better safe than sorry!
