My mom told me that tomorrow I have to be a very brave girl. I have to go to the vets with my sister, Scarlet. She is very, very, very sick. The vets think she may have a really mean cancer so time is of the essence. My role is that I will give blood to my sister if we match. So if you can, send prayers for me and send loads of them to Scarlet tomorrow. She is having her spleen removed and I will be giving her any blood she needs, if I am a match. I hope I am because I don't want to loose Scarlet. Please think good thoughts and send lots of prayers for us tomorrow. We would really appreciate it, more than words can say.

Someone new!

I got to meet another Airedale yesterday. My mom brought her home - she smelled a little, and her fur was long and shaggier and had stick-tights all in her but when she saw me, we immediately hit it off! We first did a little hello sniff and then we politely play bowed to one another and then we ran around all over! My mom called this Airedale Bonnie and she was really cute. She looked a lot like me! I guess someone did not want her cause she was in the shelter but now she is in the hand of Airedale Rescue, thank goodness!

Bonnie was going to stay with us but my sister Scarlet and my brothers Max and Samson were not happy. And we are so packed in our home now ... but shhh, mom really wants her to stay with us and I think she is trying to figure out a way how to make it work. I am totally fine with it so long as she knows that I get the bed!

My Tail of Devotion for Sophia Jewel, CGC

To my dearest Sophia,

I wasn't prepared for you but I knew I wanted you. That fateful February day in 1999 was the day my life would forever be changed. Between you and your sister, both looking so similar, I could not tell which one I wanted. But there was something in your eyes, and it was just the slightest glimmer of something that told me you belonged to me. We have been a pair ever since.

You have taught me strength, humility, devotion...you have given me joy, sorrow, anger, laughter, and an undying sense of love. I truly hope I can live up to all that you desire from me and need from me and want from me.

We've traveled together, we've played together, we've worked together, we've trained together, we've snuggled together, we've soothed one another. And I have enjoyed and cherished every single minute of our journey together, and will forever continue to do so. I know at some point our paths will lead us in separate directions, but you will always be in my heart forever. Your place in my heart is embedded very deeply and it will never be covered because you, My Sophia, are my heart.

Love forever,
Mom

BLASTED HEAT!

I don't recall ever even having a winter or a spring this year and it stinks. See, winter is my favorite time of year, especially when it snows. I love spring becase of the cool weather and I can sit outside and realax. But no! We go right into 90 and 100° weather and it is miserable. All I want to do is lay around the house. It is too hot to do much of anything and I don't like it!

And then, to top things all off, and this really is just the icing on the cake, those big booms and pops are going off all the time now. WHAT IS THAT?! Pretty soon I'm sure some of my human companions will be causing those pops and booms too. Oooh it makes me mad because I get SO TERRIFIED from them. So now I'm trying to find a good and tight space to go to feel somewhat safe.

I hate summer ... I really do ...

Soph (it is too hot to even spell out my whole name!)

I'm so pretty!

Well, at least that is what my mom tells me and she would NEVER lie to me...well, except the time when she said I wasn't going to the groomers...or the time I wasn't going to get a bath...but honestly, she doesn't like about the big stuff, like me being pretty!

She got me a new collar for my upcoming birthday. And not only that, I got TWO new collars and one even has a matching leash. I got to use that early when she took me to Dogtoberfest. That is fun! There were SO many dogs there and we played games and shopped. And everyone loved my pretty collar. When mom gets around to it, she said she would put a picture of it up. It is B-E-A-Uuuuuuu-TEE-FUL!

See yas!

I met new family!

Mom says I'm becoming quite the traveler. Over Thanksgiving weekend I got to go to Nebraska. I've never been to Nebraska. I've been to Iowa, Kansas, Illinois and the other side of Missouri but never to Nebraska. I liked it up there! When we got to where we were staying this pretty lady came up to me and said, "Hi Sophi! I'm your Great Grandma!" I wasn't sure what that meant at first and so I hung out next to momma for a while.

But then, I think I figured out what Great Grandma means - it means person who gives me GOOD food! I got marshmallows, pecans from the pie she had, meat from her stew she had, pieces of her oatmeal cream pie and good stuff like that! I don't get that food at home so Great Grandma has to mean something like that! I learned to stay really close to her when she was sitting down cause that is when the goodies came.

While in Nebraska, I also got to meet someone called my Great Uncle. He was pretty cool! I wasn't nervous or afraid around him. I was comfortable and slept some. Then, I got to sleep on his bed too! That was really neat. But he didn't give me lots of goodies like Great Grandma does. But that is okay. My Great Uncle is pretty swell too.

Momma kept saying she was so proud of me and I don't really know what I did. She said I was really good at the Veteran's home and with all the people around. Normally, that stuff makes me scared, but I felt safe there and I liked those people. Even the staff was good cause I wasn't nervous when they came in to see Great Uncle, although, I think they really just wanted to see me!

It was a fun weekend but I'm glad to be home cause I missed my brothers and sisters.

The weather is changing!

I love fall weather because it is one of the times of year that I can go out and enjoy it. In the summer, it is just too hot to do anything. But the fall I can run and play in the leaves. One time, I went out back and the yard looked like it was full of nothing but tennis balls! I love tennis balls! But only, when I picked them up they didn't have the same taste and texture as tennis balls. Then, mom started picking them up and throwing them into the woods behind our yard. I can't go in the woods so I don't know what she wanted me to do! She kept saying she doesn't like walnuts??? Not sure what that means! But my most favorite activity in weather like this is to sit out front and just watch the world go by. Of course, no one better go by my house cause then I'll have to let them know just exactly who lives here!

Now if only it will snow. Mom says she knows I am hers because we both love the snow! I even wake up my mom in the middle of the night to play in the snow if I see it is snowing out. But we don't get that white stuff too much. Hopefully this year will be different!

Gotta run, the leaves are falling!

Peanutbutter is Gooooooood!

I really do love peanut butter. Mom fills my Kongs with it but that isn't enough for me. So I always watch where mom leaves the jar of peanut butter. Then, the minute she leaves the room I am really quite and I snag the jar and yum yum yum I eat it all up.

I have to be quite when I do this though because they get mad when I help myself to my favorite snack. It is a good thing I'm a big dog because I don't think I could get it off the counter other wise. Plus, the full jars are HUGE! I've gotten a four and six pound jars down so far. And I'm really good at getting the lid off withoug destoying the lid.

But my mom still complains because I always get a tummy ache after I eat that much peanut butter. But I do still love it!

What is a second puppy hood?

Well, mom says that I'm going through a second puppy hood. But I don't know what that means. I remember when I was a puppy I was a lot smaller and my mouth hurt so I had to chew to make it feel better. But my mouth don't hurt any more and I'm a big girl now. So I think she is just silly!

Today, I discovered powdered sugar! It was fun! I got it off the counter. For some reason, mom doesn't like it when I help my self to stuff on the counters. I don't know why because she does. But I can't. Doesn't she know that my motto is "What is mine is mine and what is yours is mine!"? I guess she doesn't understand cause she didn't like me helping myself to the powdered sugar.

Well, it is bedtime now so I'm going to go to sleep. I like waking up in the morning cause I get a big Kong filled with peanut butter and marshmallows, then I nap all day long!

Night-night,
Sophi
