His name was James Jack, named after a brother in law and the man that sold us our house. He was born on February 8, 1997. His mother was a purebred golden retriever, she had a date to breed and the day before she got out and paid the black lab across the street a visit. The result was Jimmy and his 5 brothers and sisters. How fortunate for me. We picked him because my husband has a goatee and Jimmy had a little white goatee too. His nicknames were Foofoo, Fat Man, Chubs and The Jimmer. He was the nicest creature (dog, human, Mother Theresa, didn't compare) He loved everyone and everything. Go to the vets, they call him in, he was thrilled to go. He was always just happy to be wherever he was. His two favorite places to be were in the yard greeting his public and in the car going anywhere. During his 8 years with me he made a whole network of friends that I never knew about. We live on a heavily traveled corner and whenever I'd meet someone, if they lived near me, when they found out where I lived they'd say "Oh, you have the big black dog! He's so sweet, we always stop to pet him." Even the meter man and mailman were not afraid of him, they liked when he was out because they'd pet him or give him treats. Some watchdog! He weighed 100 pounds, when his fur was grown out he looked easily like 130 or so and NOBODY was afraid of him! On September 12, 1999, I brought home a 15 week old puppy some of you might know (Louis) and I don't think I ever saw Jimmy so happy. When I got him out of the car I think I heard Jim scream "OH MY GOD!!!!!!! A PUPPY!!!!!!!!!!!" Louie was terrified of this 100 pound galute lumbering towards him, up to that point he had lived with a cat and had never really seen a dog. Louie hid under a chair until he had enough and then he came out swinging and snarling, he's still like that, corner him and he'll come out swinging. Anyway, Louie warmed up to him after a day and Jimmy was like his brother. They tussled and tormented each other constantly but they always loved each other dearly. Jimmy left us on July 20, 2005. He developed a very agressive tumor on his liver. From the time I even had a clue that something was wrong until the day he died was only about 3 weeks. To this day it absolutely devastates me. I want to thank everyone here on Dogster, I know that I'm not crazy that I still miss him, nobody here says it's just a dog get over it. For that and all of your stories I thank all of you. Your regular host will be back tomorrow with more stories about how rotten I am to him but today he's a little veklempt. Thanks again
