Dreams Really Do Come True- Adopt 08 Contest

Missy was a pregnant stray in central PA. A nice couple found her pregnant and roaming the streets. The couple had recently lost their dog of 16 years, so they were not ready to take in a new dog. However, they did the responsible thing and took Missy to the local animal shelter. At the shelter they were told that Missy would be put to sleep because she was pregnant. The couple did not have the heart to leave her at the shelter, so they took her home. That night the couple received a phone call from a woman that worked at the shelter. The woman told the couple about a rescue organization in NJ called the EAST Coast Asian Dog Rescue. The couple contacted the President of ECADR and she was able to find a foster home for Missy. Missy was transported the very next day to a wonderful, loving foster home in South/Central PA. Within two days of arriving at her foster home she gave birth to six puppies. Sadly, one of the puppies died but the other five puppies were healthy. After nursing her puppies and then being spayed, Missy was put up for adoption.

I had been looking for a second dog for almost a year when I saw Missy's profile and picture on Petfinder.com. I fell in love with her immediately. Since Missy was out of state and in foster care, I was not able to meet her before the adoption but I knew in my heart this little girl was meant to be with me. After completing an application, a home visit and a three month wait, I was selected to be Missy's new Mom. On September 17, 2005 I brought my little girl home .

Missy adores her big brother Rusty. In fact, I recently took Missy and Rusty to the groomers and the groomer said to me, " Boy, does Missy love her big brother. She wouldn't let him out of her sight" Whatever Rusty does, Missy has to do. Most recently, Missy has started to howl. Rusty has always been a howler but now Missy sings along with her brother. It's so funny to watch this little dog sitting in the middle of the room with her head back howling along with Rusty. They make quite the duet. I can only imagine what the neighbors must think. : )

Last year Rusty, Missy and I were taking our normal morning walk when out of no where a Dalmatian ran up and started to attack Rusty. Luckily, the owner of the dog was able to gain control of his dog within a couple of minutes. Unfortunately, Rusty suffered three puncture wounds to the ear. I took him to the Vet immediately and he needed a couple of stitches and was given antibiotics. After the attack, I watched Missy on several occasions lick Rusty's wounds. It was as if she was nursing his wounds. I guess her Mommy instincts kicked in.

Missy has brought so much love and joy into my life. She is a wonderful little dog with so much personality and affection to give. She loves to shower me in kisses as I do her. Whenever I walk through the front door she can not wait for me to pick her up so that she can kiss my face. During our walks she will turn around and run to me and start kissing me. It's almost as though she is saying, " Thank You Mom". She is completely aware of my emotions and has the most expressive brown eyes. Sometimes, she just sits and stares at me as though she's reading my mind. For me, adoption means a beautiful pair of brown eyes staring lovingly into mine.

I want to thank the couple who found Missy and contacted ECADR. I want to thank ECADR and Missy's foster Mom, Shari. Not only did ECADR save Missy, but they found loving homes for all of her puppies. It breaks my heart to think what could have happened to Missy if they had not taken her in during her time of need.

Finally, I want to encourage everyone to adopt a shelter dog or a rescue dog. You won't be sorry and you will find...DREAMS REALLY DO COME TRUE!

I've been tagged by the ever so beautiful Mocha Bear and Sassy... Hooray!

Here are the rules of the game!

Each player starts with seven random facts about themselves. Dogs who are tagged, need to post in their Diary the rules & their 7 pawsome facts. Then choose 7 dogs to tag and list their names. Don’t forget to bark them a pmail that they have been tagged and to read your Diary, or, send them a fun Rosette announcing they've been Tagged!

Here are my 7 fun facts:

1. My nickname in the neighborhood is killer because I am not fond of strangers and bark at them every chance I get.

2. I try to chase golf carts. We live next to a golf course and every time I see one of those suckers go buy I want to chase it.

3 I am the queen of zoomies.

4 I am very fast. Mom has a difficult time trying to catch me when she wants to clean my ears.

5. I love chicken...yummy

6. I wake my brother Rusty up when he is sleeping and it's time for us to go on our walk.

7. I love it when Mommy comes home and she picks me up so that I can kiss her face and she can kiss mine.

I am tagging the following 7 pups:
