On April 3, 2003 I was adopted and this is my story:
I was about five months old. I was in a large cage when I saw mommy for the first time. The nice people at Helen Woodward Animal Center called me Sugar ‘cuz they said that I was very sweet.
Mommy called me over to her. When I came to her, and stuck my nose through the bars, she touched my nose. I kissed and nibbled her fingers. Then she was gone. I was sad. Why does everyone leave me all alone?
Soon the woman who feeds and plays with me opened my cage, put my leash on, and there was mommy. We walked for a while, and then I was back in my cage all alone again. Again, I was sad. What's wrong with me?
Next, I was taken to a room where I saw grandma and Bubba for the first time. Mommy was there too. I went over to play with Bubba. He was so big. He moved back when I jumped at him, wanting to play. I think that he was afraid of me ‘cuz I was so young and he was much older. Finally, he sniffed me with his cold nose and barked. After that, they took me away. I was sad again. Was I a bad girl?
The woman took me into another room (so many rooms that I didn’t know about). She weighed me. I weighed 30 pounds. She looked at my tummy boo-boo. She called it a “spay”. She also brushed my hair, sprayed me with something smelly, and told me I was going home. What is a home?
Soon, I saw mommy, grandma, and Bubba. They were smiling at me. Mommy put a red collar and leash on me. She called me Hope. I was happy and wagged my tail.
We walked outside. Grandma held my leash tight and mommy held Bubba’s leash. I had never been outside the shelter before. I was so excited. I jumped on grandma and knocked her over in the grass.
Yes, I've always been a naughty girl. I felt so bad so I kissed her face. Mommy helped grandma up, and we went into mommy’s car. Bubba sat in the back, and grandma held me in her arms, while mommy drove us home. I was very happy.
Even though my grandma and big brother Bubba are in heaven, leaving just mommy and me, I’m still so happy that mommy, grandma, and Bubba chose me to join their family.
Please, adopt your next dog and/or cat from a shelter, the humane society, animal control, and/or the pound. They need homes too!

PS: All of mommy's babies (except sister Sarah) were adopted from a shelter. Mommy knows how much we need forever homes. Mommy found sister Sarah (approx. 3 months old) in 1981; she was tied, gagged, and thrown in a dumpster. Naughty naughty people.

I am still a super pooper - not to big, not to small, not to soft, not to hard, not to dark, not to light, and not to smelly - just right!
I also had my yearly wellness exam and got my vaccines. I weighed 62ish pounds and I am very healthy.
Lastly, I got to ride (for the first time) in mommy's new car - the HopeMobile.

I've been eating Orijen 6 Fish kibble twice a day for over a year now and my doodies have been GREAT! Not too loose, not too hard, not too little, and not too big - just right. My fur is also soft, thick, and shiny. My skin, gums, and teeth are healthy too. My mind is active and I'm always thinking of naughty things to do. I'm so happy, just look at my new picture. I love my mommy for taking such good care of me.

Seven years ago today, mommy, grandma, Bubba, and me became a family.

Me and mommy wish you & yours a very Happy and Healthy Holiday Season and the BEST 2011.
I am doing great - almost 9 months on Orijen 6 Fish kibble and not one loose doodie and/or UTI. My fur is also fuller, softer, and very shiny.

It's been 35 days since mommy switched me from Science Diet CD (kibble) to Orijen 6 Fish because of an intolerance (maybe from the grains, or the chicken, or the pork).
Anyway, mommy was concerned about me getting another UTI on the new food. So, mommy took a sample of my morning peepee to my doctor today. He looked at it under a microscope and tested it. My urine's pH was 6.0 and all tests were normal. Oh, my doodies are great too. Now, mommy can relax.

It's been 3 weeks since changing my food, and I'm doing great on Orijen 6 fish kibbles. My doodies are healthy and firm (without adding organic pumkin). Mommy will bring a peepee sample to my doctor in a couple of weeks to make sure that my pH is good. He wants the pH to be ~6.5.
Mommy finally got a job. She starts tomorrow. Now I have the whole house to myself. I think I will have daily parties and invite my gal pals and boyfriends over (BOL).
Oh, I also won Dog of the Month for May 2010 from Dogster's Herding Breeds Association Group and a Barney Award Honorable Mention for April 2010 from Dogster's Naughty Pup Club. Life is GREAT!

As most of you pups (who read my diary) know, I've had some GI problems (colitis) lately. Well, 3 days after finishing another 15 days of Flagyl, I had the runs with mucus and blood drops again.
Mommy called my doctor and brought him a sample of my doodie. All tests were normal, and my doctor told mommy to change my diet to a grain free, chicken free, and pork free diet (the 3 main ingredients in Rx Science Diet CD) because I might have developed an allergy/intolerance to my food. He was less concerned about me getting another UTI.
Mommy bought me a bag of Orijen 6 Fish kibble. It is so yummy. She mixes the kibbles with organic pumkin (also quite yummy) to help firm up my stool. No more diarrhea, mucus, or blood - and my poop is getting firmer. Orijen also has cranberries and herbs in it to prevent UTIs.
I love my mommy for taking such great care of me.
