Super hyper dogs
a walk in the mountains or near a stream
When I was in 4th grade, I was in the girl scouts. I was trying to get a pet badge, but didn't have a pet. My parents didn't want another dog, so they got me a fish. It died. So we kept getting fish, and they would last a day, and then die. It was getting a bit upsetting. My Parents talked to each other, and decided I was responsible enough for a dog.
Mom and I went up to the local shelter to find my dog. We saw a bunch of cute fuzzy black dogs, and a little beagle. I was immediately attracted to the fuzzy dogs. I asked the lady what mix they were. She said "lab/husky". Mom asked "do they get big?" The lady said "yes." Mom tried to convince me to look at the beagle. But one puppy caught my eye, she had one blue eye and one brown eye, and was the runt of the litter. She wasn't overly hyper like some of her brothers and sisters, but wasn't as laided back as her brother asleep in the food bowl. The lady let me hold her. When I picked up that special dog, she laid her head on my shoulder. I melted, and that's when I decided to name her Cuddles Blue Eye. I talked my Mom into letting me get her. We had to leave her at the shelter till she was spayed.
It was a week after I found my dog, that the shelter called. They told us that parvo was going around the shelter, and that my dog might have it. They said that I could come get the dog, and hope she doesn't get it, or just pick a different dog. I didn't want to leave her there. My Dad said "well if it was a child, we wouldn't leave it to die", So we brought her home. She was so happy in our house. She played with the toys, and quickly learned to bark at the door to go out. She even found a spot in the living room she loved to lay. After a week or so, Cuddles started to show the signs of parvo, the Shelter warned us about.
We brought her to the vet, and she had the deadly disease. She stayed in the vet for what seemed to be like over a month, but recently my Mom told me it was just a week. The bills piled up, but I took money out of my savings to help, and so did my older sister. Then the day came, the Vet called, and let us know that Cuddles was doing great, and that they would spay her, and then we could bring her home. I was so excited.
When we went to pick her up, we met a lady who had bought one of Cuddles' sisters named Jewel. She also got the parvo and survived. The Vet's office all said that they would miss Cuddles, but were happy she was healthy. She is now thirteen years old, and is so healthy and youthful. She has been a great friend and family member.
Cuddles passed away June 9, 2009. She will be missed and loved forever.
She used to live at my house in PA with my folks, but now she lives with my boyfriend and me. She had parvo as a puppy, but now is very healthy. She was the runt of her litter. She has one blue eye and one brown eye. She loves other dogs, though being at her age, sometimes Tess gets on her nerves. She loves to sleep out in the snow, and usually will only go in her doghouse if it's too hot out or if it's pouring down rain. She hates being inside a house.

On May 7th, I took Cuddles to get a haircut. She always looks so different afterwards, but still very cute. I hate leaving her at the groomers though. I hate leaving my dog with someone I don't know. They did a fantastic job though. So, if you are in the Hickory, NC area, definitely check out Club Canine. They are very friendly and do a great job!

Today Cuddles turns fourteen years old. She still acts like she is four or five. It's hard to believe we have been in each other's lives for so long, and at the same time, it's hard to imagine a time when we weren't together. Happy birthday Cuddles! Here's to a great day, and hopefully an even better year, and another fourteen years together!!
