Daddy is kinda teasing me right now. He thinks with my new short as can be haircut, that I look more like a handsome pot-bellied pig!

Mommy doesn't think I'm overweight at all, but daddy is thinking I may be getting one too many treats snuck to me when no one is looking. Hey!!....Who is he to talk? He's not exactly Mr. Sveldt himself these days, Mr. 36" waist.

Anyway, the good news is I am indeed much cooler and we went on a walk last night at 6:45pm and it was nice outside. The sun is finally starting to set a little earlier now as we get later in the year. But I know daddy was tired last night when he got home. He did the dishes, vacuumed then mopped the kitchen, got the mail, emptied the dishwasher, walked and fed me, did some bills and finally got to take a shower at around 7:30. I was tired just watching him....but he did manage to play 'tug' with me with one of my new favorite toys.

Shave and a haircut... 2 bits

Boy oh boy....I'm not sure if I feel naked or liberated!

Yesterday I got the closest grooming ever in my 4 short years. Mrs. Ellie really trimmed me down as I had a few mats near my hip joints and I've been itching and scratching a lot lately from the heat.

See daddy took me for a nice walk on Saturday and we didn't get very far in that morning as it seemed liek it was already 90 degrees outside by 8:45am. I was panting and panting, and really wanted to rest in the shade.

We didn't push it at all and my daddy does feel a bit guilty for the lack of walks we've been doing the last week, but it has been so hot outside.

So I got a really close trim. By beard was taken up, as was by undercoat and even my leg furnishings. Really short, but I feel so much cooler now. But I look a bit funny.

Tomorrow is my Birthday!

Wowzers, I can't beleive I'll be 4 year sold tomorrow. Daddy says it seems like just the other day when he saw my infant picture from the breeder and just had to have me.

Now I'll be 4 years old and I am just as playful and loving forever.

Rumor has it my Grandma and Grandpa are coming over with a special carrot cake for me and I'm sure I'll get some new toys as well. Grandpa is coming over today to take me for a walk since mommy and daddy are at work, but as luck should have it, daddy (by coincidence) will have the day off tomorrow as well.

He's planning a special day with me of a long walk, and mayeb even the pet store so I can pick out a new toy!! Oh, and I can't forget my sister in Las Vegas...Rylee....It's her birthday too. Time to send her a gift!

Wowzers, it has been a long time since I've been able to paw out a message out here to all you perky little ears.

All I can tell you is that it has been getting pretty warm about my house the last few weeks and I'm so glad mommy and daddy have air conditioning.

I even got a special new haircut last week. Most of my beard got trimmed down and my underside got a realy close shave. It's helped me stay much cooler. The beard trimming makes me look like a puppy all over again (seeing that I'm going to be 4 years old in a few weeks).

It's also nice that my house has tile on the first floor and I spend a lot of time laying there to stay cool.

I've been going for much earlier or later walks as well. Grandpa comes over once in a while to walk me in the afternoon, but unless we walk a shaded path, I don't last to long.

Mommy and daddy have also been spending a bit more time in the backyard, entertaining and grilling....and of course I'm the star attraction with the neighbors and friends. Daddy's friend Joe calls me 'Francois' and like to play catch with me.

Hopefully I'll get a nice weekend to play again. Maybe daddy will take me for a nice long early morning walk tomorrow?

Daddy took me to the vet yesterday. I never like going there, but my left eye has been irritated the last couple of day and producing a lot of eye boogers.

Mommy and daddy kept cleaning my eye, but it kept making a lot of mucus, so daddy took me in yesterday.

They did a 'dye' test on both eyes and a 'tear' test as well. The good news is the doctor couldn't find anything wrong. No scratches on my eyes and they produce tears as they should. My tear ducts aren't blocked and no foriegn object was detected like a piece of sand or pollen.

So I got some eye drops and a steroid eye drop as well that I take once a day for the next few days. Daddy already noticed my eye looks better already just this hopefully VPI insurance will cooperate better this time when daddy files a claim.

Purring like a kitty

When daddy got home from work last night, I was soooo excited. Of course I got my customary 'home from work' treat, but then we went for a walk and played a bit in the backyard now that it is pretty much done.

I was feeling a bit rambunctious last night as I not only wrestled my favorite bed, I actually tore it open and started taking out the stuffing until dad caught me red-handed. Uh-oh, no more bed next to the couch to keep me warm until mommy sews it back up.

I kept going outside last night too, through my doggy door. I'm not sure what I was looking for, but I had to check it out every 15 minutes or so.

When daddy finally went to bed, I snuck out with a pair of his boxers and brought them downstairs to play with as mommy was watching tv.

Finally, as daddy got as usual at 6am for his morning coffee and a little TV before he went to work, I crawled up on his lap to get some snuggle-time in. As he was petting me, rubbing my ears, and scratching behind my jowels I began to 'purr' like a silly little kitty.

That's right, I admit it....I purred as daddy got all the right spots...I could have fallen alseep all over again if he didn't have to get up and get ready to leave.

Hopefully we'll play more this evening!

Busy BBQ Weekend

June 1st 2009 2:27 pm
[ Leave A Comment ] much stuff happened this weekend, I can barely believe it.

First, my human sister, Raelene came to stay for the weekend. It had been a while since her last visit and of course we played and she walked me on Saturday.

That evening mommy and daddy had guests over for a BBQ, and one of their friends, Hope, brought over my old friend Skee-lo. He's a year younger than me a doxie/bischon-frise mix. We played and played and ran in circles and posed for numerous pictures.

On Sunday, mommy and daddy dug up a lot of the backyard. I wasn't allowed out at first as I was just getting in the way, but they planted all new papyrus bushes in planters and all new decorative rock. It looks really good and gets rid of the ugly chicken wire that was back there.

I was able to sneak out once and check it out, and saw a lizard! I chased him all over the backyard until he escaped and then played a bit in the water that mommy and daddy used to hose off the patio after they made it dirty with all the planting soil.

I was pretty tuckered out by the end of the day and looking forward to going to bed last night. I slept really well.

Got Fiber?

Have to keep a watch on me today. I know daddy is a bit concerned because when he wasn't looking (only for a few minutes,.... I swear!!!), I got into the bathroom trashcan and took out the cardboard tube of spent toilet tissue, and began to eat it.

When daddy discovered me red-pawed, he snatched it away from me and looked all over for the remainder of the tube. But it was nowhere to be found. Did I really eat have the tube of cardboard?

Mommy thinks it'll break down in my tummy, if I indeed did eat it, but daddy is a bit more concerned about blockage or other problems I might have.

Not sure why I was so rambunctious last night. Grandpa Olson stopped over earlier in the day and took me for a nice long walk which tends to tire me out. However, when daddy and mommy got home, I was really amped up. I wanted to wrestle my new bed for a while, bother mommy, and of course play with daddy. And when all else failed, that's when I got into the trash can.

Well, I guess we'll see what happens later today when I go for my afternoon walk....that is if I can poop or not.

New Bed!

I got a nice surprise the other day....Daddy came home with a new comfy bed that now sits next to him at the side of the couch. It's circular with a nicle flannel like material inside that I can just curl up on during the cool mornings and late evenings when he's watching tv.

It was a bargain too. He only paid $5.99 at CVS for it, and its coloring blends in nice with the couch and carpet and rest of the room.

Tribute to Ricky Sabado

Daddy and I are very sad to learn today that one of our extended paw-friends, a 1.5 year old Chihuahua shelter rescue was tragically stuck by a car this morning and passed in his daddy's arms.

Ricky was released to a shelter some time back by its former owner who could no longer take care of Ricky.

Daddy's coworker had been questioning daddy for quite some time about dogs and adoption in general, and finally decided to take action and find a forever home for a shelter dog. Ricky was an immediate hit and bonded very well with the Sabado family...they even kept Ricky's name, and Ricky's new daddy would speak to my daddy everyday about the newfound joy that Ricky brought his family.

Early this morning, Ricky was able to wiggle out of a front gate to explore something across the street when Ricky was struck by a unsuspecting vehicle. Ricky was able to make it back to his owner as shock began to set in.

Ricky's daddy was unable to find an emergency vet so early so he went back to the shelter, and while Ricky's new Daddy was petting him, Ricky new his time was short and passed in his new Daddy's arms.

But even though I am sad that Ricky's life was cut short, to know that he was given a few weeks in a loving home that rescued him from teh shelter, and the fact that he was able to bond and touch the Sabado family so much in such a short amount of time, makes me and my daddy see the silver lining to this cloud.

But today Ricky is among new friends at the Raindbow bridge.
