Hooray! Mom finally got a new camera, so she can take lots and LOTS of pictures of me.. oh, I guess she'll take pictures of my brothers too. Those darn cats!

I'm super excited for tomorrow.. I get to go to the Dachshund races at James J. Hill Days in Wayzata! All of my buddies from my doxie meetup group will be there along with all kinds of other puppies. Just think of all of the butts I'll get to sniff ;)

Dachshund Races!

Well, yesterday were the great Dachshund races. There were so many people and dogs around, I didn't know what to do! I met a lot of new friends. Mom was particularly interested in my wire-haired cousins, because she thinks I'll need a buddy one of these days. The races sounded like they were exciting, but there were soooo many people around the track that mom, and especially I, couldn't see a thing :( Guess we'll have to show up a lot earlier next year! Mom signed up to be on the mailing list.. she's thinking of entering me in some of the competitions next year. Heh.. if there was a 'cutest doxie' contest, I'm sure I'd win. ;)

Unfortunately, it was really hot out yesterday and there just wasn't a lot of shade to be had, so I was wiped out pretty early in the day. I was even playing like I usually do cuz I was so hot. So mom and I left early. She stopped along the way and got a big, ice cold bottle of water to share with me. When she was done drinking what she wanted out of it, she put it in my seat with me so I could snuggle up with it to keep me cool. Thanks mom!

Dolce de Leche Oreos

Always notorious for trying to sneak any treat possible, little Edgar decided to take advantage of his mommy's absentmindedness by snatching the newly opened package of Dolce de Leche Oreos off of the end table when mom walked into the other room.

Lucky for him, his mom didn't notice right away. She did begin to wonder what was going on when she heard a doggie burp come from underneath the end table.

By that time it was too late, Eggie had eaten at least half of the package of cookies.

His mommy wondered if he'd be ok.. went on the internet and felt better when she didn't hear any horror stories. She was just in for the wait to see if his indulgence would catch up with him later.

The next day when his mom got home from work, she didn't find any unpleasant surprises, so she was really relieved. She went about feeding Mr Edgar and his kitty brothers, Gunther and Templeton in her usual way. While she was in the bedroom changing out of her work clothes she heard the undeniable sound of a doxie tossing his cookies.. again.. and again...

Eggie was a sad little fellow for about an hour. He looked so uncomfortable, like his tummy hurt to much to lay down. But after a little nap, curled up with his lizard toy, he was back to trying to steal the food off of his mom's dinner plate and back to chasing his brothers around the apartment.

So never leave a package of cookies unattended, even for a minute, because little doggies can make their move faster than you think!

Edgar was stolen from my home on 10/23/08

When I arrived home at 6:30PM on Thursday night, I noticed that Edgar wasn't barking up a storm (like he usually does.) I opened the door and his kennel (with him in it) was not there, as I had left him that morning.

I called my sister to see if she was playing some kind of joke on me; she wasn't. I walked further into my house to find my laptop, PS2 and some other minor electronic things missing.

My house had been burglarized and Edgar had been stolen. The theives not only took him in his kennel, but they took the container of cat food (probably thought it was his food) and his dog dish.

I called the police, they came and said that there had been a rash of burglaries in the area lately, but had never heard of someone stealing a pet. The crime lab came and took pictures and fingerprints and then they were gone.

My cat, Gunther, crawled up into my arms as soon as the dust cleared. He always knows when you're upset and always tries to comfort you.

Yesterday, my sister made a flyer and faxed them to all of the animal hospitals in my area. I made copies and started posting them at all of the pet stores, grocery stores and coffee shops in my area. I also stopped in at the humane society and animal control to give them the info as well.

I spoke to my neighbor, who said he didn't see anything, though he did wonder why his 2 dogs went crazy with barking at about 12:30 - 1PM that day. He said they wouldn't stop. He looked out the front and didn't see anything.. unfortunately, I live to the side and they got in through my back door.

I've posted to different Meetup groups in the area, MySpace, Facebook and have written to a couple of different telelvision station's "Tip lines".

The silence in my house is deafening. The hole in my heart keeps aching. I'm sick beyond belief. Edgar is my baby. I miss him more than I could ever express.

If you are in the Twin Cities area, please pass this information on.

Edgar is a 4 year old long-haired mini-dachshund of a reddish-brown color and weighs around 11lbs.

He was not wearing a collar, nor is he microchipped.

He was taken in a mauve Vari-kennel with a Tazmanian Devil sticker on top that says "Little Devil"

I am offering a reward of $1000 - no questions asked - for his safe return.

If anyone has any information on his location, please call me, Meaghan, at 612-298-9699 or the Brooklyn Center Police Dept - 763-569-3300.

Thank you and please help me find my Eggie.

First of all, I want to thank everyone for their support over this past week and a half. It's been a very difficult time for me, but knowing there are good people out there that are looking out for my little guy helps tremendously.

It's been 11 days since Edgar was taken from my home; Every day since then I have taken a different side street to work, just hoping to see him scampering around someone's yard. I almost drove off of the road when I saw a woman walking her 2 mini-dachshunds in the park on Halloween. But her little guys were smooth coats and Eggie is of the long-haired variety.

I've checked the kennels of newly surrendered animals at the local humane societies, hoping that I will see his silly wall-eyes staring up at me with his tail wagging at warp speed. But the sweet little eyes that I've seen so far have not been his.

When I checked with the Brooklyn Center PD last Wednesday to see if there had been any updates, they had yet to enter my case into their system. The girl said "try back in the middle of next week." So I will try checking again to see if maybe they have any news on the people that took my baby.

Thank you again for your support and please continue to help me get the word out about Edgar so he can be returned home, where his favorite toy is waiting for him, exactly where he left it that fateful Thursday morning.

It will be 2 weeks tomorrow...

... and the first question that I get whenever I tell someone that he was stolen or when handing them the flyer to display is: "Are you sure he's stolen?" The answer is an unequivocal - YES.

Eggie stays in a kennel during the day, because he can be a bit naughty when I'm not around (heck, he can be naughty when I am around) So he couldn't have just "gotten out" when the theives broke in. Not only that, but the entire kennel was taken, along with a container of food and his food dish. So there is no question in my mind that Edgar was quite intentionally stolen.

So far, I have only gotten 1 call about a possible lead: a long-haired dachshund at an animal shelter in St. Cloud. I jumped on the website, my heart was pounding in anticipation, but when I scrolled down and saw that the dog in question wasn't my Edgar, my heart sank again. It did give me some comfort, though, that people were watching out for him...

That same day, several relative strangers decided on their own to post messages on www.craigslist.com asking anyone who read the posting to help spread Edgar's story by writing to the local news stations.(wcconewstips@wcco.com) My heart was truely touched by this gesture and by the gesture of a pledge to Eggie's reward fund by a couple in Illinois. It helped me see that there is still goodness in people and that not everyone out there is like the people that took my baby boy from me.

I need that hope, because apparently there have been no updates made to my case file at the Brooklyn Center PD. I'm not expecting to get much out of the police...

Three weeks and ...

I'm still looking for my Edgar. It's hard to believe that it's been 3 weeks since my baby boy was taken from me and this week was the first time I honestly thought that I might not ever see him again; It's a sickening feeling. But I'm not giving up.

My friend said that Edgar has been my "constant companion for four years" and when I thought about it, it couldn't be more true. If I went outside to take out the trash, he would be right next to me. If I went for a drive, he would be at the car door waiting to jump up into "his" seat. At night, he burrowed under the covers and always slept snuggled up next to me. I miss that the most.

But there has been no sign of him. I got a few calls/emails about a long haired doxie at the local humane society, but it wasn't him. I'd rather have leads that don't go anywhere, than nothing at all though. It shows that there are people out there keeping an eye peeled for him and I am eternally grateful for that.

I'm putting up more flyers.. hanging them near some local schools and churches. I'm hoping that there will be more foot traffic to stop and look at the signs and hopefully his little face will look familiar to someone. Hopefully someone will ask their neighbor, loved one where they got that new dog from and hopefully they will see that Edgar has a home and a mommy that loves him very much. Hopefully they will do the right thing and bring him back to where he belongs.

I hope that this will get his face known to even more people and that it will be the magic that brings Eggie home to me.

All I want for Christmas...

is to have my Edgar back.

It's been one month now, but I've had a few glimmers of hope in the past week.

First was the news story run by KARE 11 here in the Twin Cities and while I haven't otten "the" call as a result of it, yet, I do think that it prompted the Brooklyn Center PD to finally assign a detective to my case. After 4 weeks of nothing, I received a call from a detective on Friday. She asked all the questions that I had already given answers to when the police first took my report, but at least it got the ball rolling.

I also discovered last Thursday that the theives stole a credit card. They used it at two locations - one of which was a small corner market in North Minneapolis. I went to the store and knew right away that this is the type of market you would only visit if you either lived in the area or frequented it. I spoke with the owner of the store and he posted two flyers for Edgar. I feel that whoever took him and hopefully whoever has him will return to this store and see that I am looking for him. The detective stopped by both locations where the credit card was used to check to see if they had any video of the transaction. Unfortunately, the surveillence tapes at both locations were only kept for 1 month and I had just missed that timeframe :o( However, the detective did say that she noticed that a few phone numbers had been taken from the flyers in the corner market.. so that's a good sign.

I am full of hope that I will get my wish and have my Edgar baby with me, sleeping on my lap while I open presents on Christmas morning.

Trying not to get my hopes up too high

Nothing.

That's what it's been for the past 2 months. I haven't heard one word about Edgar. Nothing from the police, no emails or phone calls from people who saw a little doxie at a shelter. Nothing.

When Christmas came and went without a little wiggly, wall-eyed puppy under the tree, I had all but given up hope on having my Eggie back in my life.

Then tonight, out of the blue, I recieved a phone call from a good samaritan who saw Edgar's sign up at the local Pet Smart. He said that there was a little, long haired dachshund that came into the neighborhood a few months ago. The man saw him running around in front of a house that is less than 2 miles from the little corner store where the theives used my credit card. The man is familiar with the house and said that these were NOT the type of people that would buy a dog and that they let him just kind of run around.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but things seem to line up with this lead. I left a message with the long silent detective assigned to my case to see what the next steps are. I just hope we can get something in motion... I just want to know if it is or isn't him.

Please let it be the positive of the two options.

I will keep you posted. Thanks for your continued thoughts and prayers, maybe they will finally be answered.

Home at last!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On October 23rd, 2008 at 6:30pm I came home to find that my little Edgar had been stolen from my home.

On January 23rd, 2009 at 6pm I got a call from the Brooklyn Center detective working on my case; she had Edgar.

I couldn't drive to the police station fast enough, I really couldn't believe that it could be him. I waited in the lobby of the station and then she walked through the door with my little baby boy in her arms.

His tail started wagging fiercely as soon as he saw me and as soon as I had him in my arms, he couldn't stop giving me his puppy kisses. (He's known for his crazy puppy kisses)

It WAS my boy. He remembered me. I couldn't stop crying with joy.

We drove home, he knew right where to sit. When we got there, he ran into the house and went straight for his "guy" - it was right where he had left it that morning before I left for work, that morning 3 long months ago, he knew right where it was. It was like he'd never left.

He's in good health. He's dirty (already gave him 1 bath, but he'll be getting another) and he wasn't brushed, so he has some mats but those will be easy enough to comb out. He put on a little weight, heaven only knows what they were feeding him. But all that matters is that he's home, safe and sound.

He's curled up on the couch with me now. I think he's tired out from chasing the cats around the house. (They're bummed that their vacation is over.. hehe) My house is complete again. It's just amazing. It is a true miracle that he is home and I owe it all to the good samaritain that called me 2 nights ago.

I left the man a voicemail when I got Edgar home, I told him that I would give him the reward, I just needed to know where to send it to. I was on the phone when he called back and left a message stating that it was reward enough to him just to know that Edgar was returned home.

The people that had Eggie said that he was given to them by a friend to take care of while that friend went to jail. Real stand up folks. They didn't have any of my other stuff, but the detective will let me know if they find anything else out. If anything does happen to these people, I will let you know.

For now, I am going to cuddle with my puppy. Tomorrow morning we will head straight for the vets office and get him micro-chipped; I won't lose him again.

Thanks again to everyone who has been following Edgar's story, who has sent their well wishes, prayers and throughts our way. Without you, these last 3 months would have been unbearable.
