She had been in the local shelter, then was adopted by a couple who couldn't handle the needs of a Siberian. They called her "Storm". We were going to change her name, but as we drove onto the military installation where we lived, bringing her home, a Kansas storm was blowing in. A detail of soldiers was lowering the American flag at post headquarters and was putting up a "storm" flag -- a smaller, tougher version. :) We took it as a sign that the name fit!
