Birthday: October 16th 2002 Likes: Being with his people, sleeping with Mommy, belly rubs, catch, sharing Mommy's shower, treats, singing, walks and car rides, chasing rabbits and ducks, snoozing, tug. Pet-Peeves: Not being able to see his people. Closed doors are an affront. Favorite Toy: Angus has an overflowing toy box--we never know what he's going to pull out. His likes his talking telephone, godzilla, the cow, his red leash, the goose and the tiger that sounds like a cat. He sings when the tiger meows. Favorite Food: Peanut butter and carrots. Favorite Walk: Anywhere provided it's a long walk. Best Tricks: Angus is extremely intelligent. He puts away his own toys and helps with the laundry. He has amazing dexterity. He lies on his back with a toy between his front paws, throws it in the air, catches it and spins it around. Arrival Story: I have English Springer "brothers" and love the breed. We met Angus when he was a little butterbull of a pup and he stole our hearts. Bio: Angus The Warrior is thus called because in June 2003 he was diagnosed with immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA). IMHA is a disease in which the body attacks its own red blood cells. Despite being incredibly ill and weak, Angus faced treatment with the heart of a lion and a wagging tail. IMHA cannot be cured and must therefore be dealt with via medication. Unfortunately, there can be secondary infections as a result.
In early September 2003, Angus was readmitted to the hospital. The prognosis was grim. We visited him every chance we got, fearful that it would be the last time we saw him. However, our wee warrior wasn't about to give up. His will was strong and he fought hard. I believe God heard our prayers and those of our friends and family.
It's been almost two years since Angus was hospitalized for an IMHA related episode. He has regular blood tests and will always be on medication. Despite all he has gone through, he greets every day with joy and enthusiasm. He's a great big love and we absolutely adore him. Forums Motto: Wag well and wag often. Wishing everyone a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend. While you're celebrating with your loved ones, please take a moment to give thanks to all the men, women and canines who have bravely served our glorious country and those who are currently serving. It is in their honour that I offer the following lyrics. The song was written by Ross Parker and Hughie Charles in 1939 and made famous by Dame Vera Lynn, "The Forces' Sweetheart."
We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again
Some sunny day
Keep smiling through
Just like you always do
'Till the blue skies
Drive the dark clouds far away
So, will you please say hello
To the folks that I know
Tell them I won't be long
They'll be happy to know
That as you saw me go
I was singing this song
We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again
Some sunny day
Oh my word
I don't know what to say
Here I am
Dog of the Day!
Thank you Dogster HQ. What a tremendous honour. Mom and I joined Dogster to help us deal with my IMHA. We found such an incredible community of warmth, compassion and understanding. Paws reached out in friendship became a lifeline, and our family has grown to include pups, people and angels we love dearly.
