Equal access for Psychiatric Service Dogs!

When someone flies with their service dog, they are not covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) but rather under the Air Carriers Access Act (ACAA). Currently all types of service animals are given the same flying privileges, however there are new restrictions that are going into place in May.

These new restrictions affect only service dogs that assist people with mental illness. All other types of service dogs can still fly whenever they want.

The new restrictions force people with mental illness (and ONLY people with mental illness) to provide a letter from their doctor saying that they have a mental illness, and to give 48 hrs notice when flying among other things. It is discrimination to force only one group of people to provide this extra letter and not everyone with service dogs. Please follow the link below to learn more about this issue.
