Meeting my Mom again...now that I am working. My mom's story

Odelia, Moshe and I visited Zita today at the center to meet her new owner.

Above is a picture of them out to where we are sitting. On the right is the director of the center, Noach, then Danny, Zzita and Danny's son. Zita is walking like that cuz she has just seen me and is trying to run to me, and they are trying to keep her under control.

Danny is very nice, has pinhole/tunnel vision and is quite experienced with GSD's, his former guide being a gsd who is retired now at age 9and a half. He has three kids: 11, 10, 6 -- i met the two older ones and they are wonderful with Zita.

Zita was crazy to see us, and almost killed me trying to lick my face and my feet at the same time! She settled down after a while and we had a lovely visit. We exchanged telephone numbers ...he doesn't live too far away.

I found out he rides (horses) and the funny thing was that they were going to bring by a horse that evening to "introduce" zita to horses....so i told them that zita is well-aquainted with horses, as i used to take her every week to odelia's riding class.

I feel good with this guy. He seems to KNOW and understand the gsd personality. We had a great discussion with another owner about the difference between labs and gsds: labs are "smarter" because they "learn" (parrot) quickly....whereas the GSD has to "agree" with what he is being taught...therefore he doesn't learn as quickly if he doesn't want to, yet will learn almost "instantly" if he is of the same mind as his owner....but if he ISN't... he is more "stupid"...i.e. harder to train. Well....what's to say what is "smart" and what is "stupid".

We also compared the gsd vs. lab eating habits....ha ha..zita is so thin...they always have "trouble" getting her to eat. But she is healthy and energetic...so I say, she knows just the right amount to eat!!!

We were there about an hour. Finally the time came to leave. We said goodbye and Danny took zita back towards the building. As I got to the car I looked back over my shoulder and saw Zita looking at me. I think she was thinking ...."why is she leaving"...and i started to cry.
She has only been with Danny since last monday, and is not totally bonded to him. This is something all the guide dogs go through, but it is still hard to leave them without being able to explain...I love you doggie and I know how much you love me, but this is your destiny.

I have posted more pics to photobucket...http://photobucket.com/albums/v209/zitagsd/zit aworkingdog/.
