I still can't believe my Sasha is gone
Thinking about how much I miss my girl...May 29th 2010 7:44 am[ Leave A Comment ] It's been about a month since we had to put Sasha down. It was one of the hardest decisions I had to make. She had been sick for awhile so it that made it slightly easier. We found out she had a large mass in her abdomen that was growing rapidly a few months prior. The vet couldn't see exactly what it was due to everything being enlarged on her x-ray. The only thing they thought was cancer. She rapidly started to not feel good. We put her on pain medication and tried to make her as comfortable as possible. She couldn't hold her bladder anymore and we didn't want to put her through giving her a bath everyday to have her inside so we ended up using a queen mattress as her bed in the garage. We put her on pain medication to help but it just wasn't enough. She had her good and bad days. The first night where her legs kept falling out from under her was the first day I seriously thought about putting her down. I felt like I was playing God and didn't want to have to make that decision but I knew I had to do what was best for her. She had days like that and then have a really good next day or several good days. She started getting to where she would only want people food and wouldn't even think to touch her dog food. I figured she wasn't going to be around much longer so I fed her what she wanted including treats. That was about the only thing that made her happy her last week or two. The day we finally made our decision was the day we took her over to visit my Mom when several other family memebers were there. All she did was just lay there. She wouldn't lift her head up when someone was talking to her or petting her, she wouldn't wag her tail, she wouldn't hardly do anything. She loved people and loved my family so this was really hard to see. I know we made the right decision but sometimes I think maybe we should've waited a little longer. We took her that evening to the vet. She loved people food with a passion and got it every so often. We took her to McDonalds the day we had to let her go and got her a cheeseburger for her last meal. It took her about 3 seconds to gobble it up. I will always miss her. There will never be another girl quite like her. She was very special. I hope to see her once again.
