My beloved Mack passed away yesterday. There was no warning and no visible reason. Here's the story....
A friend stayed the night and let him out in the morning. He was on a very long tie out in my backyard. His dog house, in reach, in the shade. A full bowl of water, in his dog house. My friend left at 11 am. She checked on Mack before she left. He was just fine.
I went out at quarter after 12 to get him and bring him inside. He was laying in the sun - which I thought was odd to begin with. Walked up to him and he didn't move. He was unresponsive. I called my friend, who lives right across the street. Her and her sister came over. Mack was not breathing. He was laying peacefully in the yard, about a foot from his dog house. No tangles in the tie out. A lot of slack laying around. His eyes were open when I found him, but they started to close shortly after that. His mouth was closed and his tongue was in his mouth, which suggests it was not heatstroke. He looked like he was sleeping.
He was just fine in the morning. I played with him, and the kids played with him before he went outside. There was nothing dangerous in my yard.
My friends sister called the ER vet and we took him the 45 minutes for a proper burial.
Mack will be greatly missed. =*(
