Mom has been very sad these last two days.
Along with the other work she does, Mom facilitates the Foster Program at the APS of Durham. She's responsible for placing temperamentally sound dogs into temporary Foster homes as Forever Homes are identified.
Mom placed Faye http://www.apsofdurham.org/pets/old%20pictures/03-17-05/faye _small.JPG into a loving home where everyone assumed she would blossom. It became clear early on that Faye suffered from seperation anxiety and given that, would be a difficult dog to place.
Faye endeared Mom so much for many different reasons. She was a pro at 'the lean.' Dogs that give you their entire body weight to carry as they fold themselves into you. She was playful yet insistant in other dogs enjoying her company. If she saw you from a distance, she would vocalize her delight. Despite the most covetted of stinky food treats, Faye wanted, desired and enjoyed nothing more than having her people touch her.
Faye got euthanized today because there are too many dogs that didnt have her issues. She died because her perfect family never came.
Mom is haunted in her dreams and in everything she does everyday for dogs like Faye.....full to the brim with love but nowhere to belong. Faye would have been everything to a very fortunate soul; instead she is black smoke piped out of the incinerator over completely clueless beings knowing nothing of the incredible life we've lost.
Mom misses you Faye. She is so sorry for failing you.
