Older friends please help

Tux is skipping meals. He isn't eating well at all. he turned down bacon this morning! Who does that???? Even My cats beg for bacon.

Remember, Tux is 17, which is very old.

He does eat over here with me. But that could be a social thing.

Could his stomach hurt? Is his food making him feel bad? You know adults when they get older they have to avoid certain foods. Could this be it? Does he need pepcid or something like that?

Mom is going to go get some high quality food tomorrow and see if he will eat it. He last seen the vet in the fall, but she will take him. Mom figures if Grandma and Grandpa told her about him not wanting to eat all the time she figures it's pretty bad.

It could be he is just experiencing some tummy trouble which might go away. As long as he is still eating, everything is probably okay. You might try offering him some human baby food like pumpkin (which is supposed to be good for the tummy), or some type of fruit. If that doesn't work, perhaps he needs to see the vet. Part of it depends on whether he is a "chow hound" or not. My humans are so used to me turning down food, that they don't even think anything about it. I won't eat if I'm not hungry. I usually make up for it when I get hungry. LOL

Stewie and I are thinking of you, tux and your family. We hope Tux's appetite comes back soon!

That does not sound like he is being his usual self, working at an emerg clinic we usually recommend seeing a vet if they're not acting them self...

Now that being said. I do agree that pumpkin is settling to the stomach, you can try that. Make sure it has no onion in it! Try his favorite foods or treats to get him to eat. But if he continues acting abnormally I would suggest bringing him in.

He came over today and did not eat with Diamond, I will be checking in on him later to see if he ate dinner. I forgot about the pumpkin. Thanks for you guys mentioning that. I've about came to the conclusion that I will take him in. I just hope that it is just another symptom of his age and not something worse. He's so old he wouldn't make it throw anything major.

Please keep praying, cause we know one day we will have to let him go but it will hurt us so deeply.

aww...poor boy, try calling your vet they might recommend something for him, also I give Petey Pepcid AC 10mg for his belly when it's upset. But again I would check with the vet first. Hugs for Tux!

TUX UPDATE!!!! Mom came home and said that she got Tux to eat!!!! Tux was in a bad dog fight 5 or 6 years. He had went and crawled in the basement and by the time Mom found home there was infection already setting in. He stayed at the vets for 3 days. He had a drain tube in his chest to drain but he keep pulling it out. Doc said Tux had lost a lot of blood. We feed him home cooked chicken and rice for two weeks and then switched to Benefuls complete meals. Mom remembered that Tux always ate these like they were a snack. So thats what she gave him last night. He ate the heck out of it!!!!!

Mom bought three, if Grandpa says that he is still eating them good then Mom will get him more.

Mom considers this to be a good sign.
