Gotcha Date:
October 2nd 2010

Likes:
Mommy and Mama. He loves to cuddle and nap.

Pet-Peeves:
other dogs growling, cats

Favorite Toy:
He doesn't play with toys very much. He likes to run after and chase tennis balls, but he can't grab them.

Favorite Food:
Benjamin has only 6 teeth, so he eats kibble soaked in water so it's soft, with some cooked chicken on top. His kibble is Go! Grain-free Senior/Low-fat.

Favorite Walk:
Benjamin likes to go places where there is lots of grass and trees to smell!

Best Tricks:
No tricks, but I'm pretty sure I could train him to do something, he is quite food motivated!

Arrival Story:
We wanted to foster for a long time, but we have some allergies so we wanted a primarily non-shedding, and small dog. The organization that we wanted to foster with, Heavenly Creatures, found Benjamin at the pound, and called us.

Bio:
Benjamin was obviously owned at one point, he had had several teeth extracted in his earlier years. Due to his poor condition when he was found, however, his dental health was bad, and he had to have a lot more teeth removed. Now he only has six teeth left, at the back of his mouth. Benjamin has a trachea that collapses, so therefore he must be walked on a harness, and you have to be careful around his neck, he doesn't like to be touched there. Benjamin had a spinal injury at one point in his life, and two of his spinal bones are fused together, toward his backside. It doesn't hurt him, but he has some limitations in his movement of his hind legs, and sometimes they quiver a bit. The vet assures us he is not in pain. He can still do stairs, and small jumps (i.e. up to the couch), except when the injury/arthritis is bothering him, then he needs help up to the couch or bed. Benjamin is a sweet dog who is very mellow and gentle. He is neutered, has had all his dental work done, and is a great companion. He loves just curling up next to you on the couch, but he also likes going on easy-going walks and playing with Rudy and Izzy (on occasion)! Oh, and he LOVES to eat! Ben was made DOGSTER diary of the day, January 27 AND 28/2011. Thank you dogster! Ben was made the Bichon Lovers Club (BLC) Dog of the Week for January 31-Feb. 6, 2011! Thank you!

Thank you so much, Dogster, for making me a daily diary pick! And thank you to my friends, O'Zaidie, Milton, Mr Jack Freckles, Hamish McDuff, Anya, and all of my other friends who made my day special. I am happy here at Rainbow Bridge. It is so nice and quiet, and I get to lie down in the sunshine and veg out like I used to do at home. It really is a beautiful place here. Thank you all for thinking of me.
love always,
Mister Ben

Missing you

Dear Mister Ben,
Yesterday was your two-year anniversary of your journey to Rainbow Bridge. Boy, it sure doesn't seem like two years. I will never forget the day when I met you, I fell in love. We had six beautiful months together, and even though you got sick with cancer, I gave you everything that I possibly could. I think you enjoyed your last months here with us. When the day came when I decided it was your time, it wasn't too hard a decision because I couldn't watch you in pain, and the medicine wasn't working. I knew if you went to Rainbow Bridge you would be pain free. That day my heart broke, to let you go. But it was the right decision. I love you Mister Ben, I'm happy you are at peace and I will never forget you as long as I live. Your memory will always live in my heart.

love Mommy Sarah
