My life in rescue started when I was just a little puppy. The people that raised me dropped me off on a dirt road. There was an old abandoned house, so I hung out there and waited for them to come back. It was dark before I saw a car coming down the little road. I was surprised to find humans that were NOT my owners step out. They seemed nice enough though, so I went with them.
It was a very short ride to their house. I met some really amazing dogs when I got there. There was a big golden retriever, a black lab, and a bulldog/lab mix. They loved me from the day they first met me. It wasn't long before they had me join them in their job of guarding the goats. They showed me how to open the gate to let myself in and out and then we would run all over the woods and look for any animals that we didn't know.
As I got older foster dogs started to move in. There were a whole bunch of them very quickly. It seemed there was a very bad problem here with homeless dogs. The humans devoted quite a large space for them and slowly new humans started to come and get them and take them home with them. It was very nice to see other pups getting a home even though they had been abandoned like me.
I was always a rambunctious girl that liked to get into trouble. One day I decided to escape the goat pen and refused to go back in. Those silly humans could put me back up when I felt like being penned back up. Well, that was the day I tested fate and lost. I got hit by a car and died instantly. Now I am watching over my friends from the rainbow bridge. There are still lots of foster dogs running around. My friend the bulldog/lab mix is still around guarding the goats on her own. The humans frequently try out foster dogs to take my place by her side, but no one has worked out yet. Hopefully one day soon there will be a new adopted dog out there having a good time watching the goats and running through the woods. Whoever it turns out to be I will be there watching over them.
