I have tried to write this in my own words, but I think Little Dude tells his story best, so here he is.

I guess I should start by telling you guys about my mom. She was really sweet and took good care of me. She always made sure me and the rest of my litter got nursed on time and we knew she was always there for us. Unfortunately, mom couldn't protect us from an infection that has got me feeling all itchy and uncomfortable. The humans that mom lived with did not help me very much. They just took me and put me out in a place with lots of cars and people. I don't know what happened to mom or my brofurs and sisfurs, but I hope they are okay.

I was alone and afraid in this strange world trying to stay out of the way of cars and doing my best to hide from all the people that I didn't know. Finally a man and lady saw me and they picked me up. I tried to get away and hide, but they wouldn't let me get away, so I had to go with them. They seemed okay and gave me some food and said really nice things to me, so I guess that was okay. I was still afraid of them, but at least they made sure I had a belly full of food. That's what my mom always did too, she always made sure I wasn't hungry.

Anyway, they took me to this place that smelled like other animals and put me on a table. These other people came in and looked at me and scraped off a little of my skin. They were talking about parasites and infections and all sorts of things that I didn't understand. It wasn't very long before I was back in my box riding off to some other strange place that I didn't know anything about. I heard them talking about their dogs and how I was contagious. I was afraid of going back to that scary place with the cars, but soon they were making a phone call and talking about me getting help and how cute I was even though I did look a bit of a mess.

Pretty soon we were sitting in the back of their car. I was in my box, which was good, because I didn't like to see the cars driving by on the road. They were telling me really nice things and trying to make me feel better. I heard a new voice call out and say something about a puppy. In just a few seconds a new hand grabbed me and lifted me up in the air to look at me. She was a nice lady, like the people that were already helping me. She smelled different though, like she had been around lots of dogs and other animals that I didn't even know anything about.

The people seemed really concerned and asked her all kinds of questions about what would happen to me. She assured them I would be safe and get treated. They asked if there was any chance of me being put to sleep. She told them absolutely not, that I was going to her house to be fostered until a wonderful family decided that I was the perfect little boy for them. They were very happy for me and said goodbye. After all that I got in another car and took one last trip for the day and finally arrived at my foster home and my new beginning.

That was the first day I met Little Dude. He is not quite so little now. The poor guy had a terrible fungus infection which made it impossible for him to play with the other pups here. I'll never forget the day he got cleared by the vet and was able to play with all of the other dogs for the first time. The picture is from that day. I think anyone can see by the look on his face that he saw it as the greatest thing ever just to have some playmates. He has been fostered here for over a year now and has really matured into a great guy. He is calm, sweet, and never pulls on his leash. He is a true miracle and Little Dude and other great foster dogs like him are the reason I keep going with my rescue work. Sometimes things get tough and sometimes I think I've reached the end of my rope, but then I head outside and they turn my day around and show me just what a wonderful group of pups they are and that they don't just need me, but we need each other.

We remember that first picture of little you
just sitting there looking so sad.
It broke my mom's heart.
We're so glad you're so much better now.
You've grown into a handsome young dude!
