A study at UCLA has shown that patients with AIDS had less depression when they owned a pet!!! http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/1999/05/990506065241.ht m

I coulda told them that!!! There is some safe handling information that AIDS patients and family members need to know. And a new diagnosis doesn't mean giving up your pets. http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/resources/brochures/pets.htm

Mom spent a lot of her career in HIV/AIDS care and research. She knew lots and lots of patients with pets. The organization that helped her patients was PAWS ~ Pets are Wonderful Support. http://www.pawssf.org/Page.aspx?pid=291

Mom says it didn't matter to her how someone contracted their illness. Her job was to provide care and services for those with HIV/AIDS ~ something many people didn't want to do. As a health care provider, she says it wasn't her place to judge others but to share her knowledge and skills to help heal or to help those who were dying. She also did research to help find ways to vaccinate, to treat and to better the quality of life of those impacted by this disease.

Our family is proud of the work that she has done. But we're even more proud of the big heart she has ~ and even though she doesn't have HIV/AIDS, we know she's not depressed, cuz she has LOTS & LOTS of pets. Hehehe...I do my part. Do yours...love your pawrents!

luv Nisha
