I loves snow, LOTS! I likes to run in it. I likes to roll in it. I likes to lay down in it. I efun likes to stick my head in it an flip it ina airs. DIS IS MY WEVVER!!! I LOVES IT!!!
'cept the part where mama don' takes me out fur my walks. She say it's too cold. Well, today we went fur a walk! We has 2 parks. A short walk park dat is very big but usually has lotsa peeples in it, an a long walk park dat is smaller but less peeples. We went to a short walk park an dere was no peeples, but lotsa untouched snows. I touched lotsa snows dere. I runned--more like a hop/run cuz a snow is higher dan my belly. Mama got down ina snow wif me an frow snow at me--I eated it! We went over to a shelter area an we play wif my ball.
Oh, an poor mama. I learn it is hard to walk on ice wif on'y 2 legs. I was dancin on my hind legs an I s'ipped on ice. I fell on my butt. I's ok, I jump right back up but I stays on 4 legs when walkin on ice. Now I unnerstans why when mama is walkin on her 2 legs an she says "WHOA-ice". She could (and HAS) fall on her butt. That is bad cuz she don' jus' jumps right back up, like me.
I's tired now (mama is SOOOOOO HAPPY about that). I think I's gonna r'lax.

I was havin so mush fun ina snows--runnin, rollin & stickin my head in it. Mama was shovelin it an I was playin. My furriend Charley & his mama comed home so me an Charley was playin. Not sure what happen. First we's playin den I's yelp an Charley jump on me. Charley mama make him stop but I don' wants to play wif him anymore.
When mama & me goes ina house she sees I has a boo boo above my eye. She say it's a little abrasion (mama helps me wif alla big words). I's kinda quiet now. Mama not sure if it's cuz I's tired from playin or if my feelins was hurt. Mama says I's gonna be ok. She will watches a boo boo an makes sure it don' gets 'fected. Mama wanna know if she can put NEOSPORIN on my boo boo. Anybody know if she can?
Mama also not sure why I yelp BEFORE Charley jump on me. I does that sumtimes efur since I's a little pup. Not alla times, jus sumtimes. Mama think I has a bad hip or sumfin but da Vet felt an moved it, I dinnit yelp or stiffen up. Maybe someday I's gets a x-ray.

Hello all, I've hijacked lil Bear's diary to explain.
Bear is a high energy dog and I knew this when I got him. I also knew that Eskies tend to be "one person" dogs.
When lil Bear came to live with me there was a lot of activity in the house. My 21 yr old niece and her boyfriend lived here and they had lots of friends that came over. Then we added another puppy, Ruby, and then my niece had a baby. All of this caused tension and stress at home. I was also depressed due to my job and financial concerns. Bear and I spent a lot of time together "running away" from this. He was a wonderful distraction, but I think I did him a disservice. It was not up to him to "fix" my problems and confusions.
Now, things have changed. My niece, her boyfriend, Ruby and the baby have moved out. It's just me, lil Bear and the kitties. I have also lost my job and declared bankruptcy. It's a funny thing but I now feel like I am finally getting my life back under control (as much as anyone ever can). I HATED my job but it was a regular paycheck. I was hanging onto old debts and worries that will now go away due to the bankruptcy. I am feeling less depressed/stressed, so now I can focus on helping lil Bear to become a "balanced" dog.
Since I am now home a lot more, I've noticed that lil Bear's energy isn't just typical "puppy" energy. It's nervous/ anxious energy. If I sit it's constant pestering to play. When he does finally lay down, he is watching me. If I move the least little bit--he's right there.
My niece told me before that Bear is different when I'm not around. He wouldn't play with them. He wouldn't eat. He would just hide in my bedroom with his nose in my shoe. Once Ruby came he played with her but it was a different kind of play than when I was around. Oh, and he would bring my shoe into the livingroom to bury his nose in. This told me that I was the "problem". I made him nervous/anxious.
I am now taking control of things, including Bear's demanding behaviors. We still go for walks (when the weather isn't too bad), because he does have a lot of plain old puppy energy. We still play but I limit his play to 20 minutes sessions a few times a day. It is no longer constant, all day play when he wants it. We still go to the park and other places together. Now, instead of it being an "escape" for me it is BECAUSE of him.
I'm still not sure why having him attached to me on the leash at home relaxes him but it does. This was an exercise we did long ago in puppy-class. It was a technique to keep the puppies supervised at all times, but it also taught the puppies because you could stop "bad behaviours" immediately. Perhaps it also taught the pups, that the owner was the "pack leader".
I don't know what I'm doing here. Bear is my first puppy. I'm just feeling my way around and seeing what works for us. I want him to be happy & healthy. As I've said before, this is all a learning experience and we are learning this together.
Thank you for taking the time to read this diary entry.

My mama fink I's toooooo 'xcitable an a total spaz. Jus' cuz I wants ta play wif her ALLA TIME! "Mama, mama, mama, frow a ball, 'gain, 'gain, 'gain, 'gain". I jumps on mama when she walkin ina house an specially when she put on her shoes--I jus' goes crazy. I wants her 'tention all the time.
Anyway mama 'membered sumpin my teacher had us do, long time ago when I was in school. He told mama to keeps me on my leash an 'tach it to her alla time. Mama noticed dat when I's ona leash I listens real good. I sits, I 'laxes, I efun lays down an goes to sleep. Hmmmm, She might be onto sumpin. Maybe I's jus more comforable bein 'tached to my mama. I's not so "anxious". Mama is also limiting my plays now. All my toys are outta my reach so mama has to get the toy an give it to me to play. She on'y does this when she wants to play an we on'y plays fur a little while (20 minutes at a time a few times a day). Mama wants me to learn to be more calm and I's almost 2 years old. Mama say she love that I's a happy puppy, she jus' wants me to be less anxious an nerfus. She'd also like me to be more snuggly. I don't know if I'll be more snuggly but...I am more calm when I's 'tached to mama.
I'll let you all know how dis works fur me an mama.

Unbaked Yeast Rolls
We have a fox terrier by the name of Jasper. He came to us in the summer of 2001 from the fox terrier rescue program. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this type of adoption, imagine taking in a 10 year old child about whom you know nothing and committing to doing your best to be a good parent.
Like a child, the dog came with his own idiosyncrasies. He will only sleep on the bed, on top of the covers, nuzzled as close to my face as he can get without actually performing a French kiss on me.
Lest you think this is a bad case of 'no discipline,' I should tell you that Perry and I tried every means to break him of this habit, including locking him in a separate bedroom for several nights. The new door cost over $200. But I digress.
Five weeks ago we began remodeling our house. Although the cost of the project is downright obnoxious, it was 20 years overdue AND it got me out of cooking Thanksgiving for family, extended family, and a lot of friends that I like more than family most of the time.
I was assigned the task of preparing 124 of my famous yeast dinner rolls for the two Thanksgiving feasts we did attend. I am still cursing the electrician for getting the new oven hooked up so quickly. It was the only appliance in the whole darn house that worked, thus the assignment.
I made the decision to cook the rolls on Wed evening to reheat Thurs am. Since the kitchen was freshly painted, you can imagine the odor. Not wanting the rolls to smell like Sherwin Williams #586, I put the rolls on baking sheets and set them in the living room to rise for a few hours. Perry and I decided to go out to eat, returning in about an hour. The rolls were ready to go in the oven.
It was 8:30 PM. When I went to the living room to retrieve the pans, much to my shock, one whole pan of 12 rolls was empty. I called out to Jasper and my worst nightmare became a reality. He literally wobbled over to me. He looked like a combination of the Pillsbury dough boy and the Michelin Tire man wrapped up in fur. He groaned when he walked. I swear even his cheeks were bloated.
I ran to the phone and called our vet. After a few seconds of uproarious laughter, he told me the dog would probably be okay; however, I needed to give him Pepto Bismol every 2 hours for the rest of the night. God only knows why I thought a dog would like Pepto Bismol any more than my kids did when they were sick. Suffice it to say that by the time we went to bed the dog was black, white and pink. He was so bloated we had to lift him onto the bed for the night.
We arose at 7:30 and as we always do first thing, put the dog out to relieve himself. Well, the dog was as drunk as a sailor on his first leave. He was running into walls, falling flat on his butt and most of the time when he was walking, his front half was going one direction and the other half was either dragging the grass or headed 90 degrees in another direction.
He couldn't lift his leg to pee, so he would just walk and pee at the same time. When he ran down the small incline in our back yard he couldn't stop himself and nearly ended up running into the fence.
His pupils were dilated and he was as dizzy as a loon. I endured another few seconds of laughter from the vet (second call within 12 hours) before he explained that the yeast had fermented in his belly and that he was indeed drunk.
He assured me that, not unlike most binges we humans go through, it would wear off after about 4 or 5 hours, and to keep giving him Pepto Bismol.
Afraid to leave him by himself in the house, Perry and I loaded him up and took him with us to my sister's house for the first Thanksgiving meal of the day.
My sister lives outside of Muskogee on a ranch, (10 to 15 minute drive). Rolls firmly secured in the trunk (124 less 12) and drunk dog leaning from the back seat onto the console of the car between Perry and I, we took off.
Now I know you probably don't believe that dogs burp, but believe me when I say that after eating a tray of risen unbaked yeast rolls, DOGS WILL BURP. These burps were pure Old Charter. They would have matched or beat any smell in a drunk tank at the police station. But that's not the worst of it.
Now he was beginning to fart and they smelled like baked rolls. God strike me dead if I am not telling the truth! We endured this for the entire trip to Karen's, thankful she didn't live any further away than she did.
Once Jasper was firmly placed in my sister's garage with the door locked, we finally sat down to enjoy our first Thanksgiving meal of the day. The dog was the topic of conversation all morning long and everyone made trips to the garage to witness my drunken dog, each returning with a tale of Jasper's latest endeavor to walk without running into something. Of course, as the old adage goes, 'what goes in must come out' and Jasper was no exception.
Granted if it had been me that had eaten 12 risen, unbaked yeast rolls, you might as well have put a concrete block up my behind, but alas a dog's digestive system is quite different from yours or mine. I discovered this was a mixed blessing when we prepared to leave Karen's house. Having discovered his 'packages' on the garage floor, we loaded him up in the car so we could hose down the floor.
This was another naive decision on our part. The blast of water from the hose hit the poop on the floor and the poop on the floor withstood the blast from the hose. It was like Portland cement beginning to set up and cure.
We finally tried to remove it with a shovel. I (obviously no one else was going to offer their services) had to get on my hands and knees with a coarse brush to get the remnants off of the floor. And as if this wasn't degrading enough, the darn dog in his drunken state had walked through the poop and left paw prints all over the garage floor that had to be brushed too.
Well, by this time the dog was sobering up nicely so we took him home and dropped him off before we left for our second Thanksgiving dinner at Perry's sister's house.
I am happy to report that as of today (Monday) the dog is back to normal both in size and temperament. He has had a bath and is no longer tricolor. None the worse for wear I presume. I am also happy to report that just this evening I found 2 risen unbaked yeast rolls hidden inside my closet door.
It appears he must have come to his senses after eating 10 of them but decided hiding 2 of them for later would not be a bad idea. Now, I'm doing research on the computer as to: 'How to clean unbaked dough from the carpet.'
And how was your day?

I has 2 favorites' balls. One is squeeky an a perfeck size fur me. Den I has anuvver one 'at lites up--we uses that when we's playin at dark time.
Mama, Ruby an me went to a open area to play ina "untouched" snow. We was runnin an jumpin an mama bringed my two favorites' balls to play wif. Mama say she frow like a "girl". I don' know what she mean by that. I jus know that when mama frow a ball I has to watch it real close cuz I never know where she is gonna frow it (neither does mama). Sumtimes she frow's it far, sometimes really high an sometimes behinds her. Anyways we was playin wif a "glowy" ball an she frowed it high--it went over a really tall locked fence an we can' get it. Mama was so upset wif herself.
Then mama frowed my squeeky ball an me & Ruby was chasin it & wreslin fur it. Well, we furgotted 'bout the ball(cuz we gots to wreslin) an coulnant finds it in a snow. We all looked an looked but coulnant find it.
Now I jus has my lotsa racketballs an 4 squeeky KONG tennis balls, but it's not da same. I misses my favorites' balls.
P.S. From the mama
I found the lite up ball at the mall last year at Christmas. I only bought the one because I wasn't sure how it would work for us. IT WAS GREAT!!! Bear and I could play late at nite, as I keep odd hours. I was hoping the little kiosk would be there again this year, but no luck. I have been frantic ever since I lost the ball. I found a lite up ball (Nite Ize MeteorLight Ball LED Light Up Dog Ball) today and ordered it. I hope we have as much fun as we did with the last one. lil Bear will keep you updated on his opinion of the new ball. Oh, and I'm still trying to convince Ruby's mama (my 22 y/o niece) to climb that fence. :o)
