Arrival Story: I lucked out big time at the Humane Society. At 1 1/2 Jakie (originally named Sniffy), was only paper trained, and went potty if yelled at. Fortunately, I put in a request for a Lhasa prior to Jake's arrival - I say fortunately, because other people wanted him too, but I had first choice since I had put in a request already. Upon getting a call from the Humane Society, I talked to someone about Jakie's problems, and they thought I should be very careful in making my decision. Poor little fellow was shaking unbelievably when I picked him up. I just held him til he calmed down, and needless to say, he tugged at my heart without even trying.

Bio: On the way home, we got a bed, toys, etc. - didn't want to wait to see him with the possibility that I might not get a chance to meet him. At home, he only had 2 accidents - the first time, he was sitting by the door, and I didn't know he didn't bark. 2nd time was the last time. I have heard him "growl" when playing with him, but he's ony barked a couple a times - and that's when he was playing.

For the pups beyond the Rainbow Bridge,
We bow our heads, we shed some tears,
We know that nothing can take the place
Of the furry pals we loved so dear.
And even as the years go by,
A remembered nudge, a lick, a sigh
An old photograph will bring them back,
And tears will fall from many an eye.
"We thank the good Lord up above,
For your doggy smile and unconditional love
The way you felt within our arms,
Your bark, your whine, your many charms.
We thank Him for your listening ear
The warmth of your body when you pressed it near.
Is it so surprising really, that you are called DOG.
You're a pretty good reflection of the love of our GOD.
For the pups beyond the Rainbow Bridge,
A voice is heard at bridge's end.
"Well done, true and faithful friend."
Your job and journey is completed on earth.
Play in the flowerfields, bask in the sun...
Chase with your pals and have great fun.
But keep your ears cocked while you're chewing that bone
You'll hear familiar footsteps---your human's come home."
Love you forever precious Jakie

A wagging tail, adoring eyes, barking at the door,
playful tugging, frequent naps,
toys strewn across the floor.
With little snorts and playful barks
you made your presence known
and, knowing you were always there,
I never felt alone.
You loved it when I scratched your ears,
I swear it made you smile.
I could never stay angry with you,
I couldn't if I tried.
The barking at the door has ceased,
no wagging tail to greet me,
just memories of a special friend
and good times are all I see.
Although I miss you dearly,
I'll try not to feel so blue,
because I know that there's a heaven
for special dogs like you.

Jakie, you are the most precious little fella I’ve ever had. You’ve made my life so much more beautiful and fun. Having you has added more to my life than anyone could imagine.
There are so many memorable moments. Wanna write them down so when I hit 90 and start forgetting all the special things in my life, I’ll be able to refresh my memory. Putting your paws up on the car dash as we got to one of your favorite places, the “farm” out in the country, to see Tug and your 2nd Mom, Judy. You’d explore all over. Sometimes you’d stay out a long time – you’d always ignored me when I called – gave me a scare sometimes. Found out you knew where to go outside to find your favorite “food” - since you knew if I saw you in the catbox room, I’d yell at you. You used to lay by the patio doors and watch the birds. When the heat was on you’d lay by the vent so you’d be nice and toasty – you didn’t like shirts – let alone raincoats – in Portland OR where it always rains. One time you flew to FL to see your Grandma, I heard people talking and realized you had gotten out of your carrier (wanted the top open so you’d feel more comfortable) and were walking under the seats – they thought you were so cute.
At home, remember one of the first times I walked you? A couple of people we walked by stopped to pet you and/or say how cute you were. Some didn’t, and you looked at me and said “why didn’t they say “Hi!”? I told you some folks jus weren’t doggie lovers. Remember the time you just had a bath and we went to the park in the summer? You were havin a blast and running all over – before I knew it, you ran through the powdery dirt of the baseball diamond. I tried to catch you but you would have none of that – you just ran and ran and ran in circles in the dirt – lovin every second! Another gal there helped me get you. Were you ever dirty!
I didn’t tell you you have some brothers up there. Randolph Jason Scott, a sheep dog – he was a handful – gentle as ever. Prince, a shepard pup I had in junior high. Tigger and Zach (2 lhasa’s who lived in TX – about 8 years apart).
