Big Day with a Big Dog

Even though it was raining, Mom took me to the park for a few ball chases, not many, just enough to run hard. We went to a neighboring town to meet Zeus and his mom for some coffee. I didn't know that's what we were doing until Mom took me into the back room and said to this weird guy that she was saving a big chair (with a big space in front of it) for a very large service dog. The people around said, yeah, yeah. Then Zeus came in. It's funny when people's eyebrows go up and their eyes get really big and they all do that at the same time.

I admit it, I'm intimidated by Zeus. I feel like a 2 year old looking up at Shaquille O'Neill. I do better looking at him from a little distance. Up close, all I see are jowls. Mom says one of these days, I'll get over my shyness, but for now, I like some space between us. I prefer to think of it as good manners. Man is Zeus patient. People get right up into his face. The goofy guy at the coffee place even picked up his foot to compare it to his hand and Zeus didn't yell at him or anything. I'm glad people don't do that to me, especially when I'm working. I was stowed away in a little space under a table, so all I did was watch (and get a couple of head pats from Zeus' mom...and mine too of course).

Our moms took us to a crafts store where again, people were all over Zeus. I wanted to say, "get a boundary," but at least they were ignoring me, so I just watched.

Later, we all went to another coffee place, Mom's favorite. Our moms wanted to yack some more. Why do people talk so much? I snoozed and periodically heard Zeus snoring. He does his job like I do...lots of little naps.

It was a day like most days, park, coffee, shopping, whatnot...today it was different because we were with friends. Mom likes that. She likes going places with just me, too. I'm not much of a talker (well, I'm not SUPPOSED to talk). Mom really enjoys talking with another human. I'm all for Mom's enjoyment, so if it means getting close to a giant dog, I'll do it...for Mom.

Sounds like a nice day...
I have a thing for big dogs. In fact if they have drool that is even better. I like to clean it for them. It grosses out mom but I like to help tidy up everyone. Mom knows when and if we meet Zeus it will be hard for mom to keep me from kissing Zeus......... I am learning when working I do not get to visit other dogs but it is haard. How nice for your mom's to get to visit..

Sounds like a pretty perfect day. Coffee, dogs, more coffee, lots of (a) dog... my kind of day. I'd be envious, but I know that Zeus and his mom adore me, too. Zeus has a huge heart.

Pretty brave you were with that big dog. I'm just a bit smaller than you and I would have stayed behind mom's legs to stay safe. Maybe someday I'll be as brave as you.
