We’ve all wanted to do this haven’t we? Find a way to let our fur friends actually take their own photos. Oh, I know we tend to take a lot of pictures of them, but what if they could shoot back so to speak with a camera? That’s where RufusCam comes in.
Here’s the story from Rufus’ person, the photographer.
This is the story of Rufus, a golden retriever that came into my life and changed it forever. Rufus was an older dog which had been abandoned at the animal shelter. I decided to adopt him even though I wasn’t confident that I could become a responsible guardian, especially with my work schedule as a commercial photographer. It turned out that Rufus and I would become constant companions and go everywhere together.
As most photographers do, I was always taking shots of anything I saw that looked interesting to me, and as most parents do, I was always taking shots of my “kid”; in this case, Rufus. One day when a friend of mine and I were joking around, we put one of my cameras around Rufus’ neck. He didn’t seem to mind. He looked so funny to us that I decided to take a photo of him, but not before we added a final touch; the sunglasses, which completed the picture. Rufus stood perfectly still for me as I took the shot.
Of course, that was how it all started. I decided to construct a special harness for Rufus so that the camera could remain steady and point directly in front while he was walking. So many people were attracted to Rufus’ personality, not to mention the camera around his neck, that we had plenty of startled expressions to shoot. “Is that a real camera?” was a common question. Then we found that dogs were interested, too. They would come right up to Rufus and stare right at the lens, as if to say, “What do you think you’re doing?”
We had a great time, Rufus and I; he loved all that attention, especially from all the girls who thought he was such a handsome dog. We took these photos together until Rufus was just too tired to even go out on walks anymore, but the best thing about photographs, is that they preserve all the memories.
