That’s right. There’s no misprint in that title. Its been all the talk in Dogster groups and forums and now its coming to the blog. The DCA web site specifically calls for breeders and anyone else coming in contact with deaf Dalmations to euthanize them (that includes vets).
On one hand. I understand the Dalmatian breeders being concerned about a fault in their breed’s genetics. On the other hand, how about just spaying/neutering and placing the deaf dogs with people who will love them?
At the request of several Dogsters we’re opening this topic up for discussion. What do you think? Bark in!

Joy, please consider the following issue for the blog…thanks!
Earlier I had heard from Jasmine about the issue as well.
Check out this website.
They basically want all deaf dogs to be killed because deafness is a “serious problem”. They do not even want the dogs to be placed into rescues for adoption. They think these dogs are taking up time, energy, and space when “normal” dogs could be getting adopted.
Also, the page was started in 1999, and has not been updated since 2003. So this has been around for longer than we thought! Doesn’t mean it can’t change now, though.
There is an e-mail address on that website, if dogsters would like to write to them about this practice. I’m not sure if the address still works, considering the webpage was a few years old…
BTW, that’s Pentagon van Arabica, one of our Indonesian Dogsters, in the photo. He’s not deaf but he is a lovely dog!
