It was not Beauty’s week. First the 3-year-old dachshund fell from a 200-foot sheer-face cliff on England’s Jurassic Coast without her owners realizing it. Then she spent six days stuck on a narrow, bushy ledge above the ocean, surviving severe conditions, and trying to cope with a broken leg.
Beauty, who was on vacation with her owners, disappeared while chasing a rabbit near a cliff edge. For days on end they searched the area for their pooch, not realizing she was just 200 feet below, on a ledge that was probably so narrow and brushy that it went unnoticed.
At last, a passerby heard her barking, and Coastguards lowered a winchman down the cliff and rescued her. She was in fairly decent condition, considering.
“She’s a tough little nut,” owner Helen Warren told The Sun.
I hope the tough little nut gets to wear a nice little leash next time she’s around cliffs. This is not the first dog I’ve written about who has plummeted off a cliff and lived to tell about it. I can imagine how many don’t make it.
