At first glance this looks like a construction or roadwork setup being led by a firefighter. Not too exciting unless you’re a 4-year-old boy. But stick with it and you’ll see just what they’re fishing for.

The dog is expected to be fine. He fell 25 feet into a sewer in Maryland after a snowplow accidentally dislodged a manhole (doghole?) cover. Firefighters led the rescue effort. It’s not nearly as heroic looking as the rescue of Vernon/Lucky/Spikey from the Los Angeles River last month, but these guys are heroes just for braving the smell.
